Hi, I`m another Mike and I don`t ****ing swear at all.
I`m based between Liverpool and Manchester but I`m neither scouse nor Manc. Been into music recording since I started to learn alto sax about 3 years ago. I hardly use the midi functions of Reaper, just use it for its immense audio features. However, that might change when my manual arrives and if ever notation is implemented.
I only got into Reaper as an alternative to Cubase which I`m using at college (music tech course). Oh, sorry, I said I dont swear then I used the C word.
Ah well, thats me.
Mike.

Good song Mike. I think you sound like Peter Gabriel, but my wife thinks it sounds more like Pink Floyd (hopefully I’ve not said the wrong thing).
I’d like to have a go at making a contribution, but I’m afraid it might take a few weeks. I’ve got various other projects on the go and I keep getting distracted.
I did drag it into Reaper and I’ve worked out what I think is the arrangement. Let me know if I’ve got it wrong. See below.
I was thinking of playing around with the MP3, just to generate some rough ideas. To work out the tempo I snipped off the front (sorry) so it starts exactly on the first beat. Then it seems to synchronize with a 120bpm click. Is this correct?
Where were you thinking of inserting the up tempo bit? On a 120bpm count, I notice you’ve got the snare on the 4th beat of the bar which gives it a half time type of feel. A section with the snare on the 2 and the 4 would create the up tempo effect. Is this what you had in mind?
Maybe some others could chip in with ideas as well.
Pete

Hi Pete,
Glad you like it. Gabriel and The Floyd - well it's been said before if I'm honest, though it's certainly not me trying to sound like anyone. If I'm completely honest I'm not good enough to try and sound like anyone but me Maybe I should get Mrs Mike to sing my stuff, *she* doesn't sound like Gabriel; my regards to Mrs Stratman by the way.
Yep, 120bpm is right - sometime .mp3 format messes up the exact timings etc. but not this time it seems - and the arrangement in your pic looks good.
The beat at the moment is fairly lazy as you say, just a snare on the 4th.... I've attached a MID file with a drum pattern idea which might be of interest and also the drum track template I use so you can see what's what.
Thanks for looking at it, have fun :-)

OK while we're waiting to hear the fruits of the East-Midlands/Surrey-Commuter-Belt super group is anyone planning on going to any festivals this summer?
If so why?
and to see whom?
and wherefore?
and whence?
Any tips for good festivals to take a 6 and 11 year old?

Glastonbury, if I get a ticket.
Why? Force of habit!
To see whom? My mates. The bands are irrelevant at Glastonbury.
Wherefore? Still force of habit.
Whence? End of June.
Might do a couple of smaller ones too.
I've no idea about child friendly festivals. WOMAD's pretty child friendly if you're into the music. I've still got WOMAD mud on my wellies from last year.

It's a scary thought, but the last proper festival I went to was headlined by the Grateful Dead.

Not exactly a festival, but I'm off to the TommyFest at Slough tomorrow to see Tommy Emmanuel.

I think I was a that festival Stratman, I thought the world of Jerry Garcia.
Well Spike, there's the Sunrise festival, which is about sustainable living and permaculture and all that weird hippy shit, kids would love it, so might you. http://www.sunrisecelebration.com/
Anyway I live in Bournemouth now but I spent most of my life in North West London and played in quite a few bands, never had any real success but had a wild time. I have a Tokai Love Rock and an Ibanez as93, that's a 335 type in violin sunburst, a G&L legend (Strat), an Avalon acoustic with Cedar top.
These are the important things eh boys? I also have a Carlsbro Fatboy, very creamy 30 watt valve job, and an absolutely killer Laney LC15 which defies all the laws of physics. Sadly mostly they are gathering dust though, I played in a covers band down here but it was a bit shabby so I left, wouldn't mind meeting likeminded individuals with similar interests ..... etc for fun and frolics
I am a builder in my other life (plasterer by trade), I do mostly domestic conversions, extensions, and home improvements because I like getting dirty and being outdoors a lot.
I guess I'm not too serious about recording, I don't have a project studio as such, just a mixer and stuff all plugged into my pc, I just like farting about with software to see what I can do. I have a Yamaha FZS600 too, all this is probably indicating I have absolutely no inclination to anything whatsoever about my protracted midlife crisis - who cares anyway
I guess that's the who and how of it, nice to meet ya all!

Interesting you mention the LC15. I've tried them and they're great. I've now got a Laney VC15, which is similar. It's my main practice amp and I really like the sound.

Just lost money at Turnkey...
... but it's not as bad as losing my job. Big bummer for those guys. How's my luck, I placed an internet order for a midi controller by debit card in the weeked, the item is out of stock, and now they're in administration.
My company is in administration too, so I shouldn't really spend any money - hopefully we'll get bought and I'll keep my job...
Ah well, some days life sucks.

Essex Guy
Hi,
My name is Andy, live in Shenfield Essex.
Just started recording again with my buddy who lives in New Jersey.Reaper has been a superb tool for us, bouncing files backwards and forwards over the pond and has made these two old gits enjoy the fun again ( and also spend fortunes on gear again ! )
If you wish check www.myspace.com/barbourking

Spike,
Mike and I are (I think) still in the process of working on this track and have been bouncing ideas back and forth.
It's been going slowly because I had other commitments and now Mike's extremely busy with his involvement in a motorcycling business.
I did get an email from him a couple of weeks ago.
Hopefully, my musical ideas haven't made him run away.

Just thought I'd say Hi.New to Reaper but not recording.Stopped using my other DAW after trying Reaper Demo for a week then decided to buy.
A little harder interface to get used to but way better sound and funtionality plus lots of add-ons/VSTs etc
My 1st creation with it is called,"String Theory",

Do you think we need to revive this Reaper User Group UK thread? It’s been a bit quiet lately.
I haven’t got much to say at the moment, except that a delightful young lady called Jessi Love has joined http://groups.msn.com/REAPERUserGroupUK.
Apparently, she’s bored of being single and wants to meet us.

For any UK Reaper users who are fans of Dave Gilmour, his Live at Gdansk concert is on BBC4 at 21:10.
I'm going off to watch it in a few minutes.

It's good that we've got this Reaper User Group - UK Sticky thread, but it's a pity it's not being used much.
I just wondered whether it might be better placed under the General Discussion area or even the Lounge, because it's not really being used for Music/Collaboration. Then we could use it to discuss general UK specific music related stuff.
I apologise in advance for just saying what's on UK TV again, but I notice there's a program on BBC1 tonight at 10:20 that's the first in a series on the history of the guitar. I just mention it because it might be of interest to other guitar nuts like me.

This thread might be better in the general section. I've been here for a couple of months and only now found it!
Oh, and I'm Thomas, live in Edinburgh having migrated from Germany ages ago. I do own an acoustic guitar but don't really use it nowadays, the Juno106, and especially Virus C plus various soft synths see a lot more use. I also use a crappy DD55 as drum trigger with an RMIV/V. Mixing is all in the box, first Cubase 5.1, then Tracktion, now Reaper and I'm not looking back

Jeff Beck
Ok, here's my latest contribution to, what seems to have become, the 'What's on TV in the UK Thread', which is probably my fault.
Did anyone else see Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scotts on BBC4? You can still see it at the link below for a few more days.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...Ronnie_Scotts/
He's using a very exposed sound and it's pretty raw, but what feel, attitude and expression.
Awesome.

Strewf!
Thanks for that Pete, I always rated Mr Beck but you don't get to see much of him, I reckon he's better now than he ever was when I saw him.
His right hand technique is something else - the band aren't to shabby either.

Cheers Pete, Beck was never really my cuppa tea, but it beats watching News at 10. Played at Ronnies many times myself incidentally.

Me neither, Ted, my telly is almost never on, except for the news. But you shoulda seen 'Sweet Charity' with Shirley Mclain last night, ITV. Amazing songs, daft story line, but truly great singing and dancing Even a great jazz quartet. Maybe you can view it on the net?

Saw Rory Gallahger loads of times at Bracknell Sports Centre (and the original Genesis). Great guitar player, beaten up Strat, no paint left, worked very hard constantly touring. Great mandolin player too. Did you ever wake up with that bullfrog on your mind? 5,000 in the audience at Bracknell were in ecxtasy listening to him.

This is bringing back memories. I say Rory Gallagher and SAHB live a few times.
Rory Gallagher was probably still in Taste when I first saw him.
In fact, I even remember seeing Tear Gas, which were SAHB before they joined forces with Alex Harvey. One of my earliest memories of bands was Tear Gas with, what must have been, Zal Cleminson playing a psychedelic painted Strat with a picture of a banana on the back.

Loved all those bands. Mott The Hoople with Mick Ralphs and his Les Paul. Groundhgs with Tony McPhee playing Cherry Red, which I always associated with his cherry coloured Gibson SG. Wishbone Ash with Andy Powell (Flying V) and Ted Turner (Strat). I always remember the guitars.
And let's not forget one of my favourite bands and guitarists of all time, Free with Paul Kossoff and his low slung Les Paul Standard.

Same here.Funny how things were much clearer then. You were sort of either a Les Paul/SG player or a Strat/Tele player.
My first band proper electric guitar when I was 16 was an Antoria Les paul that I fitted Ibanez super 70 and 80 humbuckers to and would you believe I still have those pickups on another guitar now
I dug out the guitar(An old Seiwa Strat copy) to use on the track,"String Theory" a short while ago as I wanted a fatter humbucker sound on the recording. It's on my Reverbnation page in my sig.

Hey, Pete, I'm an amateur radio and antenna freak! Got a 3 element home made yagi beam in my loft! And an also home made 40 metre band loop antenna on my living room table, 3 feet square! Works amazingly well. A design from Practical Wireless. Dipoles dangling out of my window, vertical on my roof, one for 2 meters, one for the illegal 27.555 11 metre band Don't tell the authorities, I have 900 QSL cards from all over the world on sideband on that band USA when the propogation was good, mostly Europe in the summer on E layer propogation.. Not CB, which is full of nutters, but SSB, millions of good people there. Knowledgeable, polite, always there in the summer even when the 10 meter band is totally silent. 5 and 9 to Australia on 4 watts Also do meteor bouncing (morse of course, can send 25 words a minute, receive much slower). I have a lovely Icom radio. 73 Nev.

Nev, a Yagi is a wonderfully elegant antenna.
Here's a link to an antenna program, with a powerful free demo, you may find interesting, based on the Method of Moments technique.

Yikes, now I'm gonna have to make a 5 element yagi!!!!! Can't rotate mine of course, cos it's in my loft, not on a massive outside pole like most Americans have. Oriented Westwards to the States. But yes, you're right, this is the wrong forum, don't want to cause any QRM here
