Default New Theme WIP: Combinat

I thought I start my own theme since there's none that is based on Reason/Record. So here's an early preview...

This is of course not 1:1 Reason but I take UI parts from Reason or Record where they seem suitable. I want to give it that hardware-feel that Reason's UI provides.

A few questions:

1. Is there a way of not allowing the mixer track labels to be colorized (looks bad on the glue-on tape labels).

2. Is it possible to change the font and/or font size of certain text elements, for example the Volume label is too large, the track label text should be bold etc.

Good job!
Looks really clean and easy to work with.
Please keep us updated

P.S sorry I can't really answer your two questions, I never created a theme my self so I wouldn't know the answers.

looks dope!

you can change the track title and volume label fonts in the theme editor (preferences->appearance).

afaik it´s not possible to tint the track labels of the tcp and mcp independently.
it´s either tint all track labels (or track panels, you can set it in preferences->appearance) or don´t tint them at all.

@SoulOne82 Thanks for the hints!

@lowellben I defintely will release this theme once it's complete, but it will a v4 theme only though.

I ran into more theming trouble: I've changed The Mixer Menu button but that bugger wont move or resize. It sitz there on the Master Mixer Panel but doesn't move no matter to what I set the coords, e.g.

set master.mcp.menubutton [10 10 24 24 0 1 0 1]

Anyone have any idea why this happens?

Hey

I had the same issue with my themes. The menu button stays on the top right of the master strinp no matter what value you type in.

It must be some Walter code bug.

Maybe you have in your code is "set mcp.extmixer.mode [1]" (to the size did not change)? You can also try to indicate the position of the upper coordinates (last 4 digits of 0000).
But I'm not the master here.

Not sure what the question is here

You can choose not to color all track labels in prefs

However if you indeed want to have the TCP label backgrounds color but not the label backgrounds on the MCP, what you need to do is to draw the MCP background directly onto the mcp_bg.png, you will need to use the magic pink to make sure it does not stretch about, but it will work fine

You also ask about the mixer menu, first thing i suggest is to comment it out in the rtconfig, this lets you know that the rtconfig is working fine, however i dont see any issues in your rtconfig master menu code

Try to force it with an "always true" condition :
Code:
set master.mcp.menubutton !0 [10 10 24 24 0 1 0 1]

Good job on the midi editor window, colours work nicely.

At first glance I think the highlighted buttons may be a little too bright...hard to say from a screenshot though.

You mean the switched-on button in the mixer? That's basically how it looks on Reason's mixer. Kind of gives the impression of a LED button like they are common on hardware mixers.

I assumed the darker red were the selected notes.

Amberience is right, the darker shade is selected state. These are again very much the same colors as in Reason's MIDI editor ... as far as that's possible to get the same in Reaper.

Here's another WIP screenshot (need to keep myself motivated ) ...

This is in part based on the Alternate theme by Lamda so some colors and elements might turn up looking very similar.

I was considering buying Record when I learned about Reaper. I like the look of it, from the ssl console to the clean yet colorful theme. This is a very handsome theme.

I judge themes by how much real console vibe they have. I worked as a studio hired gun for a few years in Alabama (the Shoals) and I have to feel some vibe of sitting in front of a real console and feeling like the real thing to get my vibe going when playing and mixing. I have recorded in a studio room used to record "Brown Sugar" by the Stones.

This theme gives me the feeling of a real pro atmosphere. Makes me want to write, play and mix it up. That is the same reason I miss plugin gui in reaper. It mars my mojo.

That's exactly why I make this theme. I miss the hardware feel of old Akai samplers and Mixing consoles. IMHO too many themes look as if they just where submerged into a pot of grey or bluish/greenish grey color and then with some gradients here and there. The contrast is missing. That's a bit too dull of a look for my taste. I find the default V4 theme suffers from this too.

I am in absolute agreement with you here. But like the Alternate theme, I find it hard to use since I mix in the tcp and not the mcp.

Your theme is incredible. very nice work. I hope you release this soon.

Like i said since I mix in the TCP, Ill probably grab your mcp faders flip 'em 90 degrees in gimp and replace the tcp ones. No offense, I hope )

Absolutely not!

And the track controls aren't done yet. The buttons and faders on the screenshot above are still the ones from the Alternate theme. I'm still considering how to design these. Also still open for ideas if anyone got any.

Amazing! My only suggestion are:
-remove copyrighted references (like the ReMix logo)
-the light effect over buttons make them less readble (maybe the same effect with more transparency would be better)

Keep up the good work!
