Default Headphone Mixes

I currently have 6 headphone tracks in a folder that receive sends from groups like Guitars, Drums, Vocals. It works well except I can't solo any of them. Do you guys have another suggestion how I can create 6 headphone queue mixes and easily be able to solo guitars, or vocals etc.... ?

Thanks.

Buss all of your instrument groups to duplicate Stereo Tracks (or folders if you use them), one set assigned to LR for regular mix, One set to Headphone Bus 1,2,3,4 whatever. That way you can solo the headphone specific instrument group without any effect on the main mix.

Does that make sense ?

Sorry, routing is hard to explain quickly.

Let's say for these purposes you only have one headphone mix.

You have created Folder Tracks for Guitars and Drums (we will ignore everything else at this point, but you would group all tracks to groups/folders as well)

You then Copy those Busses (Right Click and Duplicate so all routing is copied) so that each individual track is going to the Folder (Assigned to your master buss) and an alernate Buss/Folder. Then, assign all of your "Headphone Groups" to another Group/Folder. This Folder will be your Headphone Mix 1 Master Send. Assign This Track to the hardware output feeding your headphone amp.

This then allows you to solo a group either in your main mix, or in your headphone group independently.

Does that make sense ?

Make sure you unclick master parent send on all your duplicate busses!

In essence you have two groups/folders for each group of instruments.

One Group of Folders feeds your regular LR Master Bus (Hardware Output 1/2, or whatever you use)

One Group of redundant Folders feeds another Stereo Track, which in turn, feeds your headphone output.

You can solo either set of groups without effect on the other (Solo remains only in the specific hardware path).

If somebody has a better way, cool, but this is how I have done it in the past.

Cool, i get it. That will work. I'll put the duplicate buss folders in my headphone mix folder and it will look fine too, easy to collapse and hide. Thanks. I'll group Guitar buss with the dupe so I can mix and affect the phones mix too !

When I duplicate, it duplicates all the children tracks too. Since I am still tracking I don't want dupes of the actual audio tracks. Am I missing something ?

Where does the Headphone folders get their audio from ? Do you mean for my Headphone Guitars group folder to have a receive from the original Guitars group folder ?

Don't use folders, just send to new tracks as your group tracks and unclick Parent/Master send. Leave all your individual tracks alone. Two sets of sends to two distinct paths, which end in two seperte hardware outputs. Don't use folders.
