Default Can't remove archieve file from external HD....

There is a little yellow and blue shield next to the "delete" and "rename" commands.

I am an Win 7 and the external HD is a Seagate Backup Plus Drive.

I have tried the UAD to no avail.

It says I need permission from the computers admin, even though I am the admin.

How can I access these folders and the archieve file to delete them?

Thanks in advance.

I've had this problem on W7 with several files, notably temp files generated by 7-zip. You get the message that you need permission from the SYSTEM, right?

You need to first take ownership of the file, only then can you delete it.

I used the command line tweak described here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

Supposedly, you can also do it through explorer and the security dialog
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...on-system.html
but I did not get that to work.

dbl check two things:

get properties and see if the file or folder is set to read only... if so change that.

also make certain it is not open in some other window or app...

that normally solves it... but
if that fails reboot and try again...

sometimes the system will get stuck on a particular folder or file and won't let go until you have a fresh boot up.

Did you format the Disk after buying it or start using it "as it is"? Isn´t this a backup drive to use with a seagate app?

Yes.

I bought the disk and it was set up for Mac, so I formatted for windows.

I think I was using Acronis for this particular back up, which I have tried re-installing to no avail. I have since switched to Paragon. I have tried their BB...nothing that worked.

I have tried installing the Seagate software....no cigar.

I have searched the internet, nothing has worked.

I have tried from various safe modes....nope.

Every other file on this Seagate external drive works as it should, except this one. This back-up file is of my 2nd hard drive and therefore taking up alot of space I would like to use.

Any help appreciated.

So it is just this one file? What is its full path / file name and extension?

Perhaps, try overwriting it using the same program as created it, trying to create a smaller file.

What happened with the Acronis reinstall?

Or, only if you know exactly what you're doing,
Klaxon! Danger! Danger!

(a) Copy all the other files off somewhere, initialise the disk partition, copy the other files back,
(b) or, boot into a Linux OS and see if you can delete it from there. Read up first to make sure that the disk and other files will still be accessible in Windows.

Oh shit!

Let me be honest.

I was at one time spending a lot of time here, and especially in the lounge.

One day I got super pissed off at someone and suddenly had an epiphany.

Why was I giving myself a fucking stress attack over nothing at all?

So, I decided to stop all activity, on All bulletin boards I regularly visited. I shit canned them all, emptied out my e-mail trash, freed up a load of time, felt less stress, and never looked back.

I still looked at stuff now and agin, but quit answering posts. There is a couple of sites I still logged into, but stopped commenting on posts or being active. After a while I even stopped looking at stuff, which is probably how I never saw any sign of "where is dea-man".

Again, being honest, I have also encountered some problems in my life and have been dealing with those. That is all I really want to say on the subject at the moment.

It wasn't until this little file removal debacle that I thought maybe someone at Reaper would know the answer. You guys have pretty much always come through in the past.

Peace, Love, Joy and Harmony.

You tried the command line thing I linked to above?
And was sure to use an elevated cmd.exe?

What is the exact error message you get when you try to delete the file?

I'm no expert but have you tried the (free) program 'Unlocker'. It has worked for me many a time solving problems like this.
