WOW! I'm speechless! As Reaper has now a "little bit" eye-candy, for me the only thing thats missing is a real generic-remote-implentation like in Cubase/Nuendo

Will this new capabilities eat lots more CPU/RAM?
I personally think that the UI is already extremly usable+simplistic+nicelooking: http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9422
Thanks for reading

**THIS IS NOT A WORKABLE THEME, AND MAY CAUSE BLINDNESS**
Anyone who fancies getting stuck into an advanced theme (for 1.00 scale) might find this useful (attached)
In many locations you can pop an image in and Reaper will gamely stretch it to fit without complaint and it'll look pretty good too! However, get things at the right resolution and you'll see a real payoff in sharpness.
Things gets a little more complicated with some of the advanced functions, but hopefully this will show you what goes where and what kind of dimensions get good results.
Take special note of the faders and their alpha values - they can fill the whole width of an MCP column, so there's bags of room for adding transparent glows or drop shadows, and you simply pop some 1px pink lines on the appropriate edge to tell Reaper which part of the image to overlay. Look at mcp_volthumb.png and you'll see this in action.

Plus the option to have .png as a format for the faders as well?
The test card skin is a great piece of BAUHAUS design!

You are aware of mcp_volthumb.png and tcp_volthumb.png Alex? Is that what you're asking for?
Cheers, btw. I'll try mixing some music concrete with it later...

Thank you Justin! Love the new look. It's like looking into HD Reaper (it's always been HD audio)
Here's something I threw together, mostly pngs (not the toolbar).
Faders are a lot friendlier to make.

Eli my above 'theme' was only joking, but what you show here is very very pretty! Nice font for the track panels! Should do my homework better; didn't know that that font could be selected now Hope you'll post that theme.

from the advanced theming documentation:
Quote:
Panel backgrounds (you can use bmp or png, all stretched to fit -- and alpha channel is ignored):
* transport_bg.png: background image for transport
* tcp_bg.png: background image for track panels
* tcp_bgsel.png: background image for selected track panels
* mcp_bg.png: background image for mixer panels
* mcp_bgsel.png: background image for selected mixer panels
* mcp_mainbg.png: background image for master mixer panel
* mcp_mainbgsel.png: background image for selectd master mixer panel
* toolbar_bg.png: background image for toolbar
|
stretched background graphics look really stupid if you use some kind of textures...please change this, so that they are repeated and not stretched.
what i also don't like is the automatic scaling of the toolbar icons - this should be optional...

ummmmmm... change the size of your source image, maybe, so Reaper doesn't have to stretch it so far?

reaper always scales the image to fit (regardless of the size), which means it doesn't only stretch the image, but also compresses it if the track height is very small for example. and that does look very stupid if you use some kind of textures and not a plain background.

1) Is there a height for the TCP VU meter that does NOT stretch the image at all?
2) for the Background TCP images, when the track height is maximized a bit, chunks start to show through at the edges.
Here's a screenshot illustrating these problems, and yeah, I tried several heights for the VU meters... It seemed it should be 84, White Tie's is 88... but both these heights, and all others +/- 20 pixels seemed to stretch the image.

Of course: Sweet update! Looking forward to being able to change the scroll bars!

This kicks many kinds of ass, WT. I have been stealing other people's icons and just creating my own over top of theirs, so I got the UI bug just recently. Now I know exactly where to start with the advanced theming.
Thank you very much.

justin, can you make the fx-browser following/using the correct fader, transport and i/o icons in these advanced themes?

I see another problem... with pop-up menu buttons like IO, Envelope, Record Input, etc...
If you click on one of these, then move your mouse over the window (avoiding the interface below) the "up" state of that button will not be released, and will remain there until you pass over something again, or if you resize or refresh the ui...
no big deal, just a little quirk

Justin, your work here is very exciting - opening a new frontier and era for Reaper. White Tie your contribution is amazing!
I was wondering if either of you know of a magic dimension - a pixel height for mcp_volbg.png and length for tcp_volbg.png that will re-size relative to the height and length of the TCP and MCP - what I mean is this... every attempt that I have made at creating a volume bg that has a zero notch re-sizes incorrectly such that the zero notch slides around as the mixer, etc is re-sized.

Welcome to the house of notch failure! we're all in here, pull up a chair, don't forget to pat Pipe on the head, he put loads of effort into this. Lest other weary travellers want to join us, here's the road sign:
No! No matter what you try, if you put calibration marks on the volbgs they WILL go wonky!
Cup of tea?
