Default Why does Reaper cut off first millisecond of my recording?

I am recording an acoustic track. I have the metronome enabled, with a 1 measure pre-roll. I record the acoustic track. When I go back and listen to it, it's like the "strike" on the strings has been cut off, just a couple of milliseconds or so. Is this normal? Am I supposed to offset the start of my recording?

Reaper starts recording immediately when you press rec.
So your attack should be there.
Try dragging the left side of the recorded item to reveal it.

Edit: On the other hand, I haven't used the metronome pre-roll, so that might be different.
I just use time selection "autopunch" and place the cursor a bit earlier to have a cue.

reaper also creates a tiny fade in & fade out at each item by
default. If that is the case, you can change that behavior under:
preferences > project > media item defaults
