Default Advice on first mix [copy/paste from Newbieland]

##This is a copy/paste of a thread I started in the Newbieland section##

Hi Reaper fellows,

I’m a total beginner in mixing and I’m looking for your opinion/comments/advice.

I’ve found some multitracks made available for training purpose on the Internet (http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-mtk_Newbies.htm) and decided to try and mix them.
I decided not to use personal recording material as my first shot to disentangle composition and mixing and remain as ‘unbiased’ as possible.

So sure, these 2 tracks are my first tries, but please feel free to tell me if there’s too much of this, not enough of that, and if you find basic beginners’ mistakes or common errors in both tracks that may be due to my sound system (or my ears ...).

Just one comment: I know the volume is low, but I have not tried to maximize the tracks yet as I would first like if it’s OK or not, because I’ve read that mastering crap gives… crap. ^^

Here are the tracks: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...99B5B8F9%21237

Thanks for your help !
