Default Need more XLR inputs?

Currently using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 which only has 8x XLR inputs and I want the option to record with another 8x mics simultaneously (16x total).

Suggestions?

Buy another ADAT or S/PDIF capable preamp with the inputs you need, and tie it into the Focusrite.

Focusrite has a lot of them available.

What he said. At the cheap end the behringer ada8200 is crazy cheap for what it does.

The focusrite stuff is good but a bit more expensive.

There are a stack of options really.

Exactly what are you going to be doing with this rig?

indeed ADAT seems your easier route - my used ada8000 was recently got for £60 and the missing power-button plastic housing that was spoiling the look a bit turned up inside when i opened it up for a nose! ( glued back on easy ) hard to get better bang for buck 8 more ins and outs.

My ada8000 works fine, but if I was getting another one I'd get the ada8200, because the converter latency is down from around 1.5 ms to around 0.5ms, and they've apparently fixed the PSU design, which prone to failure in the old ones.

I recently purchased two ADA8200s to expand the inputs on my Fireface UFX and couldn't be happier with their performance. I had a look inside one and they are actually very well built.
That reminds me, I made a post about them and haven't updated it with the photos of the internal construction yet. Must do that.

That's a whole lot of stuff for not a whole lot of money.

I may get a couple of 'em.

If you have one, put a power resistor in front of the primary. The PSU is very good, but it is extremely wasteful. The 48V phantom power stabilizer circuit is driven with 65 to 72 volts, fi.

That could be a simple way to make sure that the 240V version still works at 185V...

There's also a new Focusrite Octopre Dynamic. 700$ new, 400$ on the bay. It has 8 built-in compressors. Looks interesting.

I would be really careful of the 8000 unless you're good with modding power supplies, or it's so cheap it doesn't matter. They were going belly up at quite a rate. 8200s solved it.

From my limited research anywhere not using 240volts for a.c power had the bulk of the psu issues. Also living somewhere colder helps!
