Many synths can produce great EDM but as far as I can tell, Massive seems to be the best synth for creating dubstep-like wobbles. The flexible routing, filters, feedback, and sample and hold go a long way in creating very agressive pulsating basses and robotic growls. Often you can tune the sample and hold to a certain pitch which will really bring out the formants in a certain sound.

Otherwise, I would say Massive can emulate just about any electronic sound fairly well, owing to its huge selection of waveforms and to its powerful filters. Armed with an appropriate drum machine and just Massive, you could make great EDM of any genre, from house to hardcore gabber.

is EDM really music? since when?

jokes aside, I would be glad if the myth of this sysnth is for that and that synth is for this would disappear. music is made with instruments, so choose your instrument and not the sounds.

and really, for EDM every sound is good enough ...

serious? for me rather Modern Talking than that stupid, mediocre EDM.

we can be glad here compared to Gearslutz. if you want the total horror show, read a little bit in their EDM forum ... facepalm.

"modern talking" is an actual wavetable set in massive. And it's been used a lot in EDM. I was not refering to the ""band"" "modern talking" lol

But while we're at it, I'd prefer having my ears cut of over the "real" Modern Talking.
If you hate EDM that much, just stay out of EDM threads. It's that simple

I third that motion!

The house is in agreement.

PS. FraternalHouse, if you're still reading this, pretty much any
half decent synth will do the job, especially if you're just
starting out. If you've already got MASSIVE, then you've got one of
the most powerful and used Virtual synths in existence. Especially
good for basses. So many modulation options it sometimes makes my
head hurt.

Erm.....That's a tricky one.

Maybe all the rational people who read this thread?

I don't have much love for Opera or a lot of Country or the majority of the crap
that clogs the charts. But I wouldn't denigrate those genres to a bunch of
helpful or inquisitive people who wanted to find out how to produce it, just
because of my own personal tastes.

It's just common manners.

That would be like walking into a church and declaring that everyone in there
believes in bollocks and that there definitely isn't a God, just because you don't
think so.

Or walking into a rugby club dressing room at half-time and declaring that rugby
is a dumb sport.

Lol, actually, you're welcome to try that last one.

Thanks for your input. I have been playing around with Massive for a few
weeks but I have yet to find settings that sound anywhere close to the
bouncy House Sound... For $200. I thought Massive would sound better...
Which settings would you use to achieve that elusive House Sound?

It's not massive's fault, i guarantee it

Learn how to synth or get some presets.
I mean there are millions of EDM preset packs for massive available.

Are you familiar with the basics of synthesis? Waveforms, oscillators, filters,
envelope generators, modulators, LFOs, etc, etc? (Not trying to be patronising!)

If not then I'd seriously advise getting to know the basics first. Massive is
a very deep synth, and probably not the best synth for a beginner to learn on.

Check out these 'Subtractive Synth Basics' tutorial videos on Youtube.
You can use pretty much any VST synth to follow along. Whichever synth
you use make sure you start with the 'INIT' preset.

If that's all old news to you, check out the Massive tutorials on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ni+massive.
There's literally thousands of them and some can be very useful for
learning the deeper features of Massive.

This was answered further up:

And although I think "any sound" is a bit of an exaggeration, it is extremely versatile. I use it in all of my electronic songs: https://soundcloud.com/nowo

If you go to the NI homepage and listen to the Maschine extension sound examples, a lot of the sounds are Massive presets from dark techno (http://www.native-instruments.com/en...ns/grey-forge/) to more trancy EDM (http://www.native-instruments.com/en...lucid-mission/). It really is an alround beast. However, as said before, for a synth newbie probably not the easiest one.
