I did not document the actual time involved, but,
my guess is that I spent at least 6 weeks (maybe more)
on this total.

Many hours, days, and weeks went into this project.
(research, testing, processing, etc, etc).

For the history of the first batch, it all started
at the thread in the following link:
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=128013

I did create the entire collection (at a later date) in 32 bit, and 64 bit depths also.
I realized (after plenty of testing) that the 24 bit files produced the
same results in ReaVerb as the other bit depths.

Side note:
ReaVerb loads/converts IR files into RAM for access at 32 bit float.

Example: If the IR files are 24 bit, they will be temporarily converted
to 32 bit float while they are being used in ReaVerb.

Great !. My VS-1680 still works and I utilize it ! I have reverberate for reverb Impulses, you can even tweak pre-delay !
I prefer reverberate, cuz reaverb has strange sound quality.

I knew that a lot of time was involved, but this is even more than I expected.
There should be some kind of Reaper Honor Roll that recognizes major contributions (like this one)that individuals make to the Reaper community.

I have never been a heavy user of convolution reverbs. Now that I have this fully developed collection of IR files I will switch over.

Thank you Badmotor. I'm glad that you like these new ones.
I'm happy with these new updated versions also.

The original files were good, but, I felt they needed
an extra processing step (before deconvolution) to take
them to the next level.

I feel these are better now and should work great in any production.

... Enjoy.

Happy recording !!!

Default How do I load IR files into reaverb ?

I just down loaded the Zipped bundle of the VS8F expansion boards. I open them up and see .wav files. Could you enlighten me as to how I get these imported into reaverb to use them. This is obviously my first time doing this procedure. A simple step by step would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance

- Load ReaVerb onto a track in REAPER and open it.

- Click on the "Add" button in Reaverb, then,
select "file" in the drop down menu.

- Select the folder that contains the IR files.
Next, select the file you want to use.
.... The file will load into ReaVerb and be ready for use.

A bonus tip when using ReaVerb:
I always recommend activating (checking) both the "ZL" and "LL" boxes in ReaVerb.

Default re: importing IR files

Thank you for the step by step!!. I think I got it. Is it practical to save each impulse as a reaverb preset so that they are always loaded in reaverb...or do you load the impulses from the source folder when ever you want to use them? I trying not to over think this one, but I don't want to make things any harder on myself than I already do!! Many thanks

If you load an impulse into ReaVerb for a project. Then, when you save your
project, they should automatically load into the project again when it opens with
all of your settings still intact.

I appreciate all of the "thank you" and positive comments from everyone.

My goal was to make an excellent set of IR files for ReaVerb so that
REAPER users have a great resource of useful reverbs to use.

I'm always glad to see the positive responses, and I'm glad that these
are very useful for people.

It's good to know that these IR files are helping to enhance the REAPER experience.

I would like to know if a 24 bit plugin will work well with a 64 bit OS computer.

Um....What the heck is a 24bit plugin? I think you are confused. Maybe 24bit impulses for a convolution plugin, perhaps? The bitrate mentioned for a plugin has to do what architecture it is designed to run natively on, so it will be either 32 or 64bit, but not 24bit.

LOSANO,

Trivia about the ReaVerb plugin in REAPER:

If you load a 24 bit IR file into ReaVerb,
(it will be loaded into RAM for use by ReaVerb)
As the IR file is being loaded into RAM, ReaVerb will
automatically convert the IR file to floating point (32 bit/64 bit).
This is a temporary conversion as it sits in RAM being used by the plugin.

You can load these 24 bit IR files into the convolution reverb plugin
and you do not have to worry about the bit depth of the plugin.

They sound very good - compared it to my Roland VS 1680 and it´s really the same quality - these Roland reverbs sound really great.

What about the other fx like phaser, flanger, chorus, delay or guitar amp sim, they could not be loaded as IR´s, could they ?
Well, I know that guitar amps could be loaded, but...?

Guitar amp´s are great and chorus, delay and flanger, too.

1. The separation / spread of the IR's, no matter which ones they are, feel wider, deeper, and just overall more immersive.

2. The tone of the tails are more detailed...it is hard to explain, but in other IR readers as the verb tails off, the tone not only gets grainy on the "low end" IR's, there is a tone change as well. With a good set the tails retain the "clarity" all the way to the end...it does not get "muddy" or sound like the mid's get chopped.

But the same good set in ReaVerb sounds like a cheap set....

This is why I bought SIR years ago, and saved for a long tome to update to 2. ReaVerb is a good tool, and is in NO WAY un-usable, but I would suggest grabbing the LiquidSonics' Reverberate Demo, or the older free SIR 1 and trying these out in them.

Do it while your ears are fresh, using acoustic instruments like guitar, violin (fiddle to us "normal" people! ) or upright bass, vocals...delicate sound sources. THIS will let you hear the difference between the readers, and hear how good the tails are on these.

And as usual, this is an IMHO, YMMV, yada yada etc etc type of post....
I'm A/B testing SIR1 v. ReaVerb and hear no difference.

There's only one way to do convolution so there can't be any difference.

Of course if you do such a comparison, all additional features like EQ, stereo width control, envelope and so on have to be set to neutral.

If that's not the case, well of course they are going to sound different...

And we all know, payware always sounds better its equivalent freeware counterpart

These IR files can be used in ReaVerb (convolution reverb plugin that comes stock with REAPER),
or, they can be used in any other convolution reverb plugin that you desire.

Load ReaVerb, click the "add" button, then the "file" option, and navigate to one of the impulse responses (ir's). Very simple.
