Default Assigning key assigned to "No-op"? (SOLVED)

Hi-

If a shortcut key/combo isn't assigned to an action is it automatically assigned to the "No-op (no action)" action?

[Yes, I read that again and that's what I mean ]

When I tried to assign a key to an action, REAPER told me it was already assigned to "No-op (no action)" and asked if I wanted to override the assignment. Have I done something to make REAPER think that all unassigned keys/combos are assigned to "No-op" or does it make more sense to allow assignments of unassigned keys/combos without that dialog?

Thanks-

-Susan

Hi Susan,
No it's just one action called "no-op (no operation)" I guess for special cases and which it seems like you've managed to create a shortcut for. Just choose override.

But I can see how that could be confusing

Hi Tim-

Right, I know it's one action (or non-action ), but since it doesn't do anything and I never assigned a shortcut to it, why even ask if I want to override it?

I have *two dozen* shortcuts assigned to "No-op" and I know I didn't make all those assignments myself, which is why I was wondering if unassigned keys are automatically assigned to "No-op". "MediaKbdStop" for eg. is assigned "No-op" and I don't even have such a key.

No biggie; just curious.

Thanks-

-Susan

Aha!
I just did a search and found the answer in another thread.

It shows up as "no-op" instead of unassigned because if whatever it was bound to does come back (like if you reinstall a missing extension), Reaper can restore the shortcut.
