Copyprotected freeware is entertaining
All freeware should be iloked, only that's professional
If you win the contest, you get liftime licences of all soundtoys plugins -> is soundtoys closing down!?

Yes and yes.
But now checking some hours later, it has appeared in my account.

Sharp, hard, piercing, inorganic, no depth, almost like it's another sound sitting on top of the original. Not that much different in essence than just clipping. Blah. This is no exception.

Yup, when it's pushed hard it sounds very bad but a little bit of it can round things up nicely.

No.
Actually I should say, I listened to the example of the real tube preamp on page two, and was surprised how similar it sounded to the Radiator. Although I owned a GT Brick for awhile, I've never overdriven a tube preamp myself before, just guitar amps. Maybe it's the speaker adding softness that confused my idea of what tubes should sound like. I guess I'm too ignorant to be judging this stuff. Embarrassed...

LOL! I don't think Decapitator is a secret any more! Now blending in Devil Loc Deluxe...shhhh.
If you have a bass track that needs a little something, squish with DevilLoc, use the crunch control for distortion, shape with the darkness control and then blend in. Special!

I've had an ilok for a long time. I've had moments when it's ceased to work -usually because the mega-genius programmers at Pace choose to unleash a sh*ttier upgrade/version- and I've also had long stretches where it's functioned perfectly.
Today, however, is not one of those perfect days and I'm sitting here cursing the heavens and ruing the day I ever bought into their crappy, dongle.
I buy all of my plug-ins, and right now I'm so pissed off the pirates almost have my vote.
EDIT: In a last ditch effort I re-installed everything and bit the bullet and used IE to connect to their site. It worked without a hitch. Now I'm left scratching my head as to why any web-reliant company would only support Internet Explorer and not make their product work with Chrome, or every version of Firefox!...

Free SoundToys Little Radiator Plugin!
Yo Guys,
SoundToys are at it again. Just got an email that they are giving away another plugin. Remember that Devil Loc deal last year?
Here's a link to the new plugin:
https://www.soundtoys.com/sxsw2012/&rc=349-5423-384
And here's the sharing code that you will need to get this plugin:

Little Radiator
Little Radiator is a unique twist on the classic sound of the Altec 1566A tube mic preamp. Imagine a tube mic preamp, maybe even slightly misaligned, that drives and breaks in a very interesting way creating all sorts of pleasant harmonics. Great to fatten up bass, guitar, drums, or vocals. And it's fantastic on electric piano. Use a tiny bit or a whole lot. Little Radiator has boatloads of color, character, grit, warmth... well, you get the point. All the things you need to shake the "clean" off of your computer recording.
Radiator. Coming April 2012
This upgrade from Little Radiator is based on the Altec 1567A (the 1566A's big brother). It's the next level in this classic sound with extra control and an extra SoundToys twist. Details coming soon.
A Bit of History
The unmistakable green-faced Altec gear, and in particular the 1566A and 1567A, played a big part in shaping the early "sound" of Motown between 1961 to 1964. Songs by greats like The Four Tops, The Marvelettes and The Supremes went through a 1567A mixer to the massive three track recorder. Ahhh, when life was simple. These mic preamps and mixers have a very colored warm sound and are very loud. The EQ is as simple as it gets, with one knob for bass, and another for treble. After Motown, and after much gear came and went, analog diehards began seeking out the 1566A and 1567A as inexpensive sources for real tube sound. Producer Matt Wallace was a very big fan. Butch Vig and Billy Bush are also fans. Check out our Gear Closet on the 1567A for even more info.

Looks really nice. I'm downloading it right now.
Just a heads up that this requires an iLok (as do all SoundToys plugins).
Cheers!
