Default USB Mic question

I am trying to record a guitar amp using a logitech USB mic into Reaper. I can get a good recording and the sound is actually pretty decent. However the mic is clipping or something and I get a pop on all the loud peaks? Is there anyway in Reaper to set the sensitivity of the input device? I looked in the windows system and can't seem to find anywhere to lower the mic sensitivity (maybe I looked in the wrong place?)

Any help is appreciated!

Just move the mic back from the amp, try 30 cm and if it still clips go for 50cm.

Any mic sensitivity options are going to be before the signal gets into Reaper. If it's clipping, Reaper can't do a damn thing.

I'm assuming your mic's drivers came with some kind of little control panel box - if you open ASIO Configuration from Reaper, something should come. I'd imagine that if the mic has no volume control that the software should. Otherwise, well, it's crap.

Start / Run

Type mmsys.cpl

In there you'll find the volume control for your mic.

Cheers

Default Input mixer shortcut.

Even better!

1. Create a new shortcut on your desktop
2. Browse to and choose sndvol32.exe - OK
3. Call it windows Recording Mixer or such
4. Ok - thats done.
5. Now Right-click on the new shortcut, choose properties.
In the first line it will say something ending in sndvol32.exe
add this to the line a space followed by /r
6. Next to Shortcut Key, click where it say none - and then press 'R' on your keyboard.

7. OK to close the dialog.

Now when you press Ctrl+Alt+R your microphone/recording input mixer appears!
The metering is done within Reaper.

Cheers

I cannot be absolutely sure, but any volume control inside Windows would just adjust the already clipped signal.
The signal needs to be reduced before conversion to digital.
