I don't believe so, regrettably, but you can right click on a file, open its folder and do it from there

Ah yes that's true, you have to navigate out of that folder and back in to see the changes I think. Certainly less than ideal.

If you use the system browser on windows you can rename directly in the browser, but not in the native browser.

this is the 1st thing i found that reaper does not have a "way" to do it! fortunately it's not the most critical thing on earth.

You never said OSX, but i did say in Windows, on Windows Reaper has two media browsers, one based on Windows explorer, one native, the one based on Explorer can rename files, Reaper OSX only has a rather poor native media browser (Yes it is poor, the Windows one is way better)

But it is what you asked for, then you added that you were on OSX, so you need to go and change your FR to native browser.

WIP Media Explorer script:

It is quite complex to support all media explorer features (like database or the Use Explorer/Finder mode), so for now it is just meant for files using the media explorer browser, aka, basic, but functionnal.

It also have to take care of reassigning source if the file is used in project already. Quite some corners cases to handle, not sure I will push it that far.
