"Nasty CS" channel strip
Does anyone here happen to have Bootsy's old "Nasty CS" plugin, and/or the Antress Modern Plugins version 3.x pack, that they might be able to send me? I apologize for the cheek of the ask, and I realize that it's only tangentially-related to Reaper: I started evaluating Reaper because my Cubase DAW died. Most of my plugins bit the dust, including some that aren't now available because they've been replaced with later, greater, and, alas inevitably, more processor-intensive successors. Bootsy's Nasty VCS is a fantastic tool, but it does more than Nasty CS or the Modern V73, and I quite often want just a simple, straightforward, and lightweight channel strip. Most of the plugins, I've replaced or substituted, but the loss of these is felt more keenly and I'm sure that someone has them. My kingdom for a handful of .dll files!

I might have the Nasty CS plugin? I'll have to dig through my VST's. I also have some of the Antress Modern Plugins kicking around as well but I'm not sure what version they are. I'll take a look and get back to you.

I was just about to start scanning through my VST's when I saw your post. Glad you got 'em back.

I must have deleted my earlier Bootsy plugins in a purge. I'd love to have Nasty CS and VSD again if anyone has them. Thanks!

Bootsy has a website with a bunch of free plugins, some of which look like updates to the 'classic' nasty series. Is there a reason the classics might be preferred to these? I've never used them (downloading now...) so I don't know what to expect short of awesomeness.

I'm getting an "Error 509: This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!" when trying to donwload anything from Variety of Sound website. Is it just me, or are others getting this error as well?

My perception is that the newer VoS stuff does more and exacts a correspondingly higher cost in CPU. The net utility of that trade depends on context: There are things for which I use Nasty VCS, but I couldn't run it on every channel (not on my Reaper test setup, at any rate—when I spec a dedicated Reaper machine in a month or two that may change), and for "trim" adjustments adjustments, it's overkill anyway. Power and flexibility can be overrated—sometimes you want a tool that does one thing, does it well, and does it with minimal CPU cost. I'm sure that there are other "simple channel strip" VSTs (for example, Reaperto just posted one the other day that may fit my bill, Sonimus' SonEQ) but Nasty CS is the one I'd gotten used to using.

What is it you do when you are under stress again?
Coincidence - I finally dumped ALL my backups of 32 bit plugins this morning.
Including the VOS and Antress stuff. And that other chap whose name starts with a Kj - KJaerhus?
And freed up an embarrassingly large amount of hard drive space on BOTH my external drives!

Loved the older VOS plugins, even if they were made with the older SynthEdit and had a tendency to crash Reaper or Cubase.
I liked NastyCS, but I think I recall that you had to be careful with the volume output on the thing or maybe that boost button there. Still, it did make a nice sound. I have it archived I'm pretty sure. All of those VOS plugins are worth salting away.
Who knows, after WWIII or WWIV, maybe we will only have roaches left to eat and VOS plugins left to load in Reaper 3.

They might be - so old now I dont think anyone thought that far along the line at the time.
In their day they were all good (well not so sure about the Antress ones, which I think were the Billy Crystal of plugs) but with the preponderance of 64bit nowadays it is a bit of a shame few if any of these ever made the jump to 64bit.

Oh... You're right, 64bit rules nowadays.
But, I actually use 32bit vst plugs with reaper 64 bit and they work perfectly.
Exactly, which is the diffetence between 32 and 64 bit? I mean, do you hear any difference in mixing or mastering process?
Are nasty plugs poor for 64 bit daws?
Thank you

I just made a decision to use the least amount of non-64bit stuff that I could.
I was stuck with B4II and all my UAD-I stuff but since the UAD-I stuff just quit working for a reason I have yet to figure out, I guess I am down to just B4II till someone comes out with an organ I like better.
I cant honestly say if my system would run as smoothly if I re-introduced 32bit plugs, since I dont need any of them - found workable/better alternatives apart from B4II

No audible difference whatsoever, there is a minor improvement in CPU performance (might be plugin dependent, I only tested with a handful of plugins but all showed a similar result), the biggest gain from more bits is access to more memory space- which again is only beneficial if you use large sample libraries.
I use a number of 32-bit plugins all the time along with 64-bit plugins, and like you've noticed, REAPER runs them flawlessly.

So glad someone actually got that reference. Just me being silly, but sorta appropriate, don`t you think? They certainly do LOOK good......

And some of them are still killer - not been beaten. Thrillseeker VBL, Slick HDR, Nasty DLA and Ferric TDS come to mind in that regard.

Hey, thanks a lot Reaperto! I downloaded the v3.25.
I can't download the latest release. When I go to http://antress.blogspot.com.ar/ and click to download, it goes to a dropbox 404 file not found. So I'm not sure what's happening there.
I use Thrillseeker VBL, Nasty DLA and Ferric TDS all the time, they're awesome!
