Default Kontakt Chord / Arp Orchestra Free Thing

After watching the cool videos about a certain new sketching orchestra and discovering I was broke and eating PBJ Sandwiches far too often, I wondered if I could make my own little orchestral thing with chords and arps. After all I have access to VSCO2 Community with thousand of orchestral samples, a basic script and Evil Dragon to answer questions. So I'm making an attempt. The strings are up and I'm uploading the brass on my very slow connection. I'm having fun and its kind of cool. Certainly not to the level of what the pros do, but still something I've never tried before and free is still a decent price.
Requires Kontakt 5.6.6 or later.

Wow...two minutes fooling around with the interface and I'm in...the sound is incredible and the interface is clear enough, allowing an easy time and great fun.

For a first effort (or even a 2nd/3rd/4th effort), this is amazing! And, like they say, the price is right (free)!

Looking forward to all the updates...keep up the great work!

Thanks Imagegod! I'm glad the interface works I was worried about that as its pretty ambitious with all those keyswitches, the modwheel speed and then the notes in the middle.

Hey Hopi. I actually wanted to buy the new orchestra tool, but then thought I wonder if I can make my own and save some money for food. Also it keeps me occupied so less free time to spend money.

I've got a couple ideas, don't know if they will work. One is doing a version without the chords where the arp notes 'latch' and 'unlatch' when you play them so you could kind of make your own little melody on the fly, though not repeat the same note.

Another is to see if the chords and arps can be low and the top two octaves where you can play the melody. Again not sure if it can be done, but it sounds cool.

Another would be to try using the arps for percussion, single notes for bass and chords high. Not sure how to restrict the arp's range though.

Anyway its fun to experiment and see what Frankenstein VST I can bring to life.

Just so exciting! These ideas could lead to some really wonderful places (musically speaking). I'm looking forward to spreading the good news...really nice stuff, thanks!

Yes good question, I plan on doing The individual instruments for Strings, Brass and Woodwinds. The base should have fake round robins and legato, then there should be crossfade and ensemble scripts for each instrument as well. I was actually working on that when I got excited about the chords and arps and such.

The original Kontakt VSCO2 with the solo instruments and such is here...
http://bigcatinstruments.blogspot.co...2-kontakt.html

I've been trying the Chord / Arp nki with sampled synths...

Synth here... Axis 80 part 1

http://bigcatinstruments.blogspot.co...ed-synths.html

Just put the nki in the same folder as the preset nkis and it should work. And now off to work on the woodwinds.

And a bump for the Woodwinds. This zip also has updated nkis for the string and brass and an nkm to put all three up together.

I'm going to try the idea of not having chords but the one where it hooked the notes you play and loops them in the arp. Not hard as Kontakt has this already scripted.

The Arps 4 Hold scripts doesn't use chords instead each note you press is remembered and played by the arp until you press that note again. It can remember at least 24 notes, maybe more. So you can create your own melodies or long risers or such (but a note can't repeat). Put the nkm script in the Instruments folder, the strings.nki in the Strings folder, the brass.nki in the Brass Folder and the woodwinds.nki in the (wait for it) Woodwinds folder.

Does this work with the Kontakt free player? Not that I use strings and orchestral sounds, but never say never.

Sadly no Kontakt Player would go in demo mode and time out after 15 minutes.

New patch to try...
The idea is to use the lower keys for chords or arps and the upper for the melody with no chords or arps. So start an arp going and play along or play the one note chords with your left hand and the melody with your right. However the arps mess up if they get too close to the melody so i put white spaces separating the two. The chords themselves without the arps work all the way up the white keys to the start of the melody notes. Any thoughts?

Put the nki file in the woodwinds directory.

It just struck me we all have the Kontakt Factory Library wonder if those would work with the scripts... I think it will work and you just have to tell the instrument where your factory library is when it loads up and then resave the nki. Anyway someone wanna try it and see if it works? String Section, Solo Strings and Choir. Choir is actually pretty cool as chords and arps.

cool you want to PM me?

Though in this case these are just shells that require the KFL samples to work.

Oh I didn't get that ... so they need the factory lib samples... I see...

then nevermind and we'll wait until all you Kontakt stuff is done and then maybe make a way to use add lib for your whole pakage in one stroke...
