I ran into the same problem (nvidia on win 7) and replaced it with an ati . That's it ....

Next will be an idea to improve USB stuff.

Hm... I think I might need to jump ship from NVIDIA. Windows 8.1 and NVIDIA keep trying to auto-update me into oblivion. What ATI card are you having luck with?

Sorry for hijacking this thread; I'm starting a "Please recommend a stable graphics card" thread here.

I had that problem once too - there was one suspiciously big *important* update (around 200MB), applying that the graphics drivers got updated.
So, I rolled back to previous drivers and have kept myself from applying that update again.

All is well with 12. dec drivers.
