Pattonfreak1 and Shemp - Demiurge (meshuggah cover)
This has been on the burner for awhile now and finally finished it today!
Weird reversing roles with Scott as normally I do rhythm and he does lead but it came out pretty good me thinks.
pattonfreak1 - vocals and lead guitars
scott(shemp)-rhythm guitars and bass
scott jr. - drum programming
I mixed everything and tried a few new tricks so I'm interested in comments mixwise.

Enjoy!

First off, great cover!!! You really nailed it. The guitar tone is great, and I can actually hear the bass (unlike a lot of Meshuggah's mixes). I'm not listening on my monitors, just my headphones at work. I would like to see a little more reverb on the snare (maybe more tail on it). Also I wonder if you compressed the drum buss at all? Overall I think it sounds awesome, I hope you're applying some of these techniques to the next Gigawatt album!

Are we listening to the same tune? Something's really weird with the mix. All I can hear is the rhythm guitar, bass, and cymbals. I can't hear bass drum or snare (or any fills), and if I wasn't listening really hard I'd never have heard the vocal. Has anything changed with the post or was this what everyone was listening to?

I'm not familiar with the original song, but this sounds great. Steve, awesome job on the scary vocals, although I far prefer your singing to your screaming. It's done incredibly well though. Cuts through everything.
Great clarity on this mix. Whatever new techniques you are using are apparently working, however, I never heard problems with your past mixes per se. You know this genre inside and out, you know how it should sound and you know how to get there. I'm pretty astonished by how well the song gels and the balance you get between clarity/separation and glue/gel on everything, but that again is consistent with all your other mixes.
Tight performances all around, really.
Scotty Jr. killed the drums. I'm not sure if they are accurate to the source, but they sound really well done. Dad might get jealous if he keeps this up. He shreds like mad on the guitar too, I recall.

I streamed it too and everything sounds dandy - there's nice clicky heavy metal kick drum and very good sounding snare. Actually everything sounds impressively close to the original, including delivery of the lyrics in ALL CAPS.

I'm not really drawn to this genre and therefore not very familiar with it. But man, I can sure appreciate and enjoy the production value and execution. Everything sounds excellent. Makes me want to practice my mixing all the more!

Thanks guys.
For those curious, Rhythm guitars were recorded with a $180 Douglas (Rondo) 7 string with the bottom 7 strings of an 8 string set on it. Bass was a cheap Ibanez with active pups. Pattonfreak1 really made it sound good.
Drums were programmed pretty much exactly as the original track.

So I just streamed it again and now it is fine. It was the weirdest thing, all I could hear was guitar bass and cymbals. I'm just going to chalk it up to voodoo. Anyway, this sounds great! Nice job. Really enjoyed it.

Impressive!
My only "complain" is that i think the kick is sticking out a tiny bit. Maybe too much "click", or perhaps just a tad too loud.
But i think you pretty much nailed the Meshuggah sound. And being able to play it the way you do is pretty amazing.
