Default mayor of noobville

Greetings,

I have optimized my laptop, I am turning off a Hell of a lot more stuff now and still get distorted audio, nothing right about this sound. Did one this morning, new project. I put on a mono drum track recorded from a drum machine, its 4 minutes long. Then put on a mono acoustic guitar and its horrible. I know what you're thinking, but in this case its not my poor playing. Its this scratchy, underwater, in and out sound. I rendered a minute of it to demonstrate but the uploader is telling me its invalid. "Not until you play it, Uploader". I'll try a peaks file of it. That failed, too. I still wanna go Reaper, but it has to work. I need help. Musician's Friend is hawking a service called Obeidia ? and their specialty is solving home studio issues. Anybody ever heard of them?

Thanks for anything you offer.

Mayor JoeBlivion

Could you tell us what gear you are using? How do you have that track setup in Reaper for monitoring?

Don't give up on the hammer because you keep hitting your thumb. It's not Reaper because it works for anyone here with some experience. What it doesn't work with is systems that are underpowered, broken or otherwise not properly configured for recording.

Just sayin' - don't flush till you see something fall.

Kundalinguist, where's the enlightenment? Please don't misenterpret that as lack of appreciation for your input, I'm just offering guidence for you journey, and I do need encouragement, so thank you. Could resist.

As far as how I monitored the tracks when recording, they both were enabled on the first option, input audio or midi. Yes, it was Mp3 that I chose for the rendered minute. I can play it, just not upload it for a reason unknown to me.

I deleted the guitar and tried again, I got the same result, and I already knew I was crazy, so I didn't learn anything from that.

I do appreciate the help. I do not know what it is I am doing wrong.

ASIO4ALL.... google for it plz.

your audio devices are to say the least minimal...

you gotta love that wording, "... semi high def. audio"...

unless I missed something [which I often do] I don't get how you used PT on that system.

Hopi,

I have an external hard drive and it did indeed run the PT, that's why my disappointment now. I am using a M-audio Fast track for the interface and I'm using up to date drivers. At the beginning of my switch I updated drivers for all my USB ports as well as my equipment.

disabling and clearing BS allowed me to put the guitar and bass tracks on, butnomore. I'm gonna try to get everything turned off that doesn't cause the PC to crash and see how far I can get. I am determined. Still would like to hear suggestions. I plan to move Reaper to my external hard drive.

Thanks for your help so far, Men. I do appreciate it, sorry it doesn't show. I've had extremely little experience asking for help in my life, and that frustrates me more than the dialing in the PC.

so let's see... fast track interface so you used to run PT M-Powerd, right?

and that worked fine, right?

but now in reaper you can't do the same recording via the ASIO of the fast track? right so far?

well something is clearly amiss if that's the problem...

reaper and fast track device work fine together...

I have one on a very old laptop with XP on it.

Have you tried doing a re-install of the fast track drivers? I have seen them go back more than twice.

Hopi,

You've got the picture. I did update my drivers during my switch over a few weeks back. I went to the M-audio web site, its separate from Avid now. Tonight I downloaded the ASIO4ALL and can't do anything. The menu options don't even show the devices I have, and no two menus, for my OS, Reaper, Kontackt, Fast Track, or Keystation show the correct or even the same devices. Some list the driver as a device, not a driver. Dead in the water. Not only am I the Mayor of Noobville, I am now its Amatuer IT Technician, Steven Worsethanbefore. You don't want him touching any of your stuff.

Thank you

I cannot get a sound out of Reaper now, since adding the ASIO4ALL, but I can play music from elsewhere on my computer. Any I-deers??
