Default Keep REAPER in the lead

For those who are registered at KVR and haven't seen this yet, there's a poll about your DAW of choice and REAPER is currently in the lead. Cubase is catching up quickly so I figured I'd post a link if you want to vote for REAPER.
Not that it really matters but I figured why not post this anyway.

Yay.

These surveys always go the same way. Everyone agrees they don't mean anything and then anyone who voted for their favorite gets all excited if/when their fav takes the lead.

Don't care.

I never participate in any of this or KVR. However, as much as I hear you guys say Reaper gets trashed over there you should vote it up just for fun especially if it doesn't really mean anything.

What's the deal with the video on the KVR page?

Possibly the most bizarre Reaper-related thing I've ever seen...

Being popular isn't always cool. Reaper is cool- just buy a license there is no better way to support it.

I don't mean to be a nay sayer but this kind of thing and so many other things in life are a great example of confirmation bias. I guess you could also sprinkle in a little heard mentality also. For some reason people need to know what they stand for is the right choice. Then, at same time throw in a little cognitive dissonance when something comes around that challenges what you believe.

Well, I'm getting off the psycho babble soap box and am going to vote for Reaper! FTW Lol

I completely agree.....which is why I can't be bothered signing up to vote. I don't care what is "the best DAW". I use Reaper because it suits me and after SX 3 found Cubase more and more tiring to use. That and the fact any new versions just seemed to be bundled with more and more shit to justify the price.

Reaper fans can indeed be a little ... rabid? I had noticed that too when I was shopping for a DAW, and I can see how that may breed some resentment, especially when it is in threads about other software.

But then again, Reaper has a vibrant community, it is (or was) an underdog, is made by approachable "guys like us" folks, and it has a business model that goes against the commercial mainstream, which makes it easy to love and become fond of. That it almost has an open source feel, without being open source, was one of the things that attracted me to it.

My issue with surveys, though, is that they usually allow only one vote. I voted for Reaper because it's what I use the most often, but I also dearly love Renoise, and am intrigued by FL Studio's workflow, and I like the Bitwig folks, especially for their Linux support. Yet, I could only vote for one.

That was me, awhile back, dabbling around in iClone. I did a bunch of little videos like that which help me to learn that somewhat complex app, and just for laughs. That face is actually Justin's face on the avatar.

Actually posted it here before, that vid. And before anyone starts assuming it's something it's not, here's another where Reaper and Cubase are kickboxing. Just doing anything to learn the interface. The only way to learn software is to use it, so me not being a screenwriter I make little funny (to me) scripts to practice animating things.

This one came out too dark, me not knowing what I was doing with lighting there yet.

I guess you'll like this one better, Reaper knocking out Cubase.

Ya think?

I think I posted in that thread, about a week or two ago...

Here's another of my animation adventures on the daw wars, using GoAnimate.

Maybe more relevant to the daw poll threads...

Xtranormal is pretty fun btw if you like making stuff like that. I used to use it to parody friends when they did something dumb and I wanted to rag them about it.

Yeah, XTranormal was the first one doing that stuff I think, pretty cool for just goofing around.

GoAnimate is pretty much the same thing. I usually crop out the watermarks in Vegas which may be against TOS, not sure. Like most, I never read that stuff.

iClone is great once you grasp it. But you have to spend money on sets and props and characters to do anything really good, which I didn't do.

So the DAW that is Cheapest (or free if you ignore the nag screen) is top rated on a site primarily used/populated by people looking for free or cheap plugins and software?

SHOCKER!

will my music sound better if it "wins"?

I think I'll vote Mixman. I have no idea what it is but it sits there with zero votes and I'm a human being with feelings so I feel bad for it.

Nah.

There are many legitimate criticisms to be made about Reaper, but "there's a default setting I don't like" isn't one of them.
