Default sws etentions

When i install sws extentions do i also need to install the gofer key map as mentioned in this video

http://youtu.be/F3YsWickhRk

Also in the video it says to assign macro alt/s with action "split at mouse crossfade into split"

I don't see that action OR lets say the exact wording in my actions list under sws extentions

i do see "split selected item at edit cursor w.crossfade on left"

Is that the same action?

Is alt/s assigned to anything already?

head scratch!

I have SWS extensions installed and have never installed that gofer keymap or assigned that hotkey. The beauty of Reaper is being able to customize it to your workflow. No need to assign hotkeys or install extra stuff if you don't need it or it doesn't enhance your workflow. The sky's the limit!

Correct, you don't need those extras. When you find out a bit more what they do, you may (or may not) see them as complementary to your workflow. But as far as SWS is concerned, it stands on it own in order to function. You don't need to add those other things.

SWS is a toolkit, if you like, a very big bunch of extra actions.

Another bag of different screwdriver bits and spanners -you don't need to use them all on a job, but you have a very wide selection to choose from if the job gets involved...

You wait until you get your head around custom actions

All that this custom action does (there's only one single custom action in that keymap file) is split the item(s) and place the crossfade so that it ends at the edit cursor position (instead of the edit cursor marking the middle of the crossfade area). As the maker of that video (sorry, forgot the name) places his splits rather loose - with some caution room towards the transient, I never understood why he made such a big point of that custom action . He could have done pretty much the same thing using the regular Reaper action.

Still, it is a useful function when you need your fades placed more exact. Of course I am not the only one wanting this behavior, so the functionality of my custom action has in the meantime been nicely realized by Adam (Wathan, I think is the name?) and is included in the SWS extensions as

"SWS/AW: Split selected items at edit cursor w/crossfade on left".

Preceeded by "View: Move edit cursor to mouse cursor" in a custom action you have pretty much what I did back then - without all the cursor hopping and time selection juggling I needed to do in the background

Long story short: Nope, you don't need that file anymore .
