To me the knobs were very close and the name as well. Others above were making the connection. In fact obviously other felt the same way since it is enough for Empirical Labs to be concerned about infringement.
Here is what was written to me: "Interestingly we are not involved with this Stressor, and have started notifying the person/company that it violates our IP protection"
PS- I own a Fatso Jr.
Their web page clearly states its a clone of an EL8. I'd also think EL has their heads in the sand a little, that VST is by far not the only EL8 clone with those buttons.

for the most of us who don't have a distressor, this video gives a detailed rundown:
Stressor isn't even close to a clone. it does some nice transient shaping on isolated drum tracks, but nuke mode on a drum room mic hardly even sounds compressed. however, it seems to be updated frequently so I'll keep an eye on it.
don't get me started on the cookie-cutter Antress crap.
Why would anyone want this when Klanghelm DC8C2 does all that and tons more, and sounds infinitely better? And is 64-bit on Windows?
Hard to argue with this. Dollar for dollar ($26!) DC8C is the best compressor available IMO. It sounds great and is incredibly versatile. It isn't a clone of any specific piece of hardware but you can mimic almost any compressor action with this one plug. Clean or dirty, smooth or aggressive, fast or slow, simple or complex... it pretty much does everything.
Like the Distressor it really is a compressor toolbox.
Will be interesting to find out if it does and faithfully especially since I just purchased it. I will say that someone either gets what the EL8 does or they don't. If they don't (aka haven't owned/used one) they may be missing a good bit of the point. That doesn't mean I love it, just noticing the possiblity.
I'm not saying good/better here, just noting that by reading this thread, the EL8 seems to fall into that general category where its true value (or lack of) isn't always completely understood.

I'm a bit late to the party.
I had totally forgot about this plugin until i needed something to squash a drum loop today.
I was VERY surprised of the result.
This thing is real good. Haven't tried it on more then a drum loop so far but i'm impressed about the knock i could get out of this.
