Default "MIDI error: The following MIDI inputs could not be opened: ?

Im suddenly getting this error everytime i press the play button now in Reaper 4.731/64bit?

Very annoying?

This is fine in Ableton, and just use a MIDI USB cable and a M audio Oxygen 49?

"MIDI error: The following MIDI inputs could not be opened:"

It doesn't list what 'can't be opened" ???

Any help please?

I have had this a couple of times before in Reaper and it seemed to correct itself? Is it a bug??? Is it something I did?

aarrrgh

The first thing I can think of... (because that happened to me here once)

There are two places where MIDI devices can be assigned in Reaper:

1. Preferences -> Audio -> MIDI devices

2. Preferences -> Control surfaces

Check that your MIDI device isn't assigned to both, because then it would give this error.

also check that the midi port is not used by another program such as ableton live, or any other midi tool...

^ This solved my problem too. Had a Fishman Triple Play midi guitar pickup, and closing the Fishman setup/etc app fixed the problem. Didn't realize you couldn't run both.
