connect phone control surface without wifi network?
Is there any way to connect if you don't have a wifi network?
For instance, bluetooth?
what about if your phone has a personal hotspot, and you can get your laptop hooked up to it? Of course, I guess I wouldn't have my wifi on during a RECORDING session....

adhoc from your pc?
raspberry pi as wap?
just ideas. Bluetooth would be cool but I've never enjoyed dealing with it
on pc.
I've been disappointed by the lack of cool shit with Android devices connected to pc. I'd love to get a readout on all those sweet sensors, maybe a live camera feed, etc all over USB from these prolific Android devices.
or, going the other way, using Android devices as extra monitors via USB. got a ten inch tablet? perfect size for a dedicated midi editor screen... and you'd never notice the space taken up by it in your laptop bag. few external monitors could boast the same

Stay Offline
Seriously, Reaper is on a bad collision course with hackers and malware and spaiware and adware for as long as wifi or phone integration is shoved into the mix. It is better to sidegrade or downgrade away from all those security vulnerabilities. Seriously. And the tutorial video shows a painfully and notoriously weak passphrase. Don't be that guy.

Don't leave the house either. Additionally, what Jason is asking IS offline as far as the net is concerned.

Bluetooth works for me with my android phone and TouchOSC.
But I also have a sneaky little USB MIDI footswitch for starting/stopping recording from my drumkit.

What's the deal? I'm confused by the whole thing. Both my studio and live machines are connected to wireless routers and I can control them (via VNC) from my phone and my tablet and it's awesome and I've never had a problem I could attribute to that.
So...???...

It's all possible, but a bit of a pita. What works on one platform, might not work on another.
And a small Wifi router is only like 25$ or so. Seems like an easier way to me.
