Default Mouse modifiers, any click for any function?

Why is it I can't pick any mouse click type for an action? For instance, since left click envelope segments to add points, when all I have are left drag and double-click? Media item only has left click, left drag and double click, where's right click?

That's just how it is.

It's because right drag always does a marquee selection, so right click cannot happen as it would prevent right drag from happening (since click is a faster action than drag).

Is there a way I can set it up so I can right-click media clips and have something happen?

You can bind the action to e.g. Crtl / left click to what ever you want.

But no way to use right click? What if I don't use right-drag for marquee?

If you take a look a the picture you posted yourself, this is not available as an option.
Right drag is hard wired to marquee select.

If you insist to have a specific action directly at hand on your mouse.
Go and buy a gaming mouse use the additional buttons for stuff like that.
You can use a standard mouse with middle click or the page buttons instead for firing actions.

I'm really not trying to be funny, I'm just interested if there's a workaround or extension that allows for assigning specific actions to any mouse button I'd like to, especially since I understand Reaper excels at customization where others fall short.

So, there's definitely no way around being able to assign exactly what buttons I want to assign to exactly what action I want?

I also find it depressing that you can't customize Reaper 100%, but of course it's still better than the competition.

Mayhaps it could be possible with a script though, no?

I did not think you are trying to be funny.
This is a comprehensible question. Sadly it´s not possible (via r-click).

You can assign different actions to mouse-buttons but this is not via mouse modifiers.
Here you have to use the action list and let the mouse button be treated like a key-stroke.
