What am I missing here?
If I open an unpacked reaper theme with Note Pad I see a few lines of actual text and them a bunch of gobbledygook like;
ûûý úøû øöü ôÿ þþþ ÿüÿ òôô úúú þþþ ü òôò ÿüÿ ÿüÿ òôô úúú þþþ ü òôò ÿüÿ
Is there some windows component that I am missing?
In the v4 theme, I do see a section of WALTER in the middle of all this junk.
With the V3 theme, I do not see any WALTER. I am wanting to somehow bring the thin mixer layout for V3 theme into v4 theme. Trying to figure it out and learn a bit, but I can't read Klingon.

OK I see how to get at the Walter of other themes, but I'm trying to look at the Walter of the V3 theme. It has different layouts, but there is no WALTER in the rtconfig when I unpack the V3 theme.
really really confused.
is it in the V4 theme somehow?

This
IS
DRIVING
ME
CRAZY!
why can't I find the WALTER for the V3 theme? is it in some other location? The rtconfig file is only:
use_pngs 1
tcp_showborders 0
mcp_showborders 0
tcp_vupeakwidth 2
mcp_vupeakheight 4
mcp_mastervupeakheight 4
mcp_altmeterpos 0
use_overlays 0
transport_showborders 1
tcp_vol_zeroline 85000000
tcp_pan_zeroline 67000000
mcp_vol_zeroline 85000000
mcp_pan_zeroline 67000000
trans_speed_zeroline 99999999
No Walter, yet it has layouts? I'm sure the answer is obvious, and I'm just missing something.
*edit* Ok figured something out. old pre-walter themes all have these "thin mixer" layouts, so it must be something hard-written in the program. If there is no Walter layout available, it defaults to these layouts.
So I guess I'd have to make a thin mixer from scratch. unless there is some code for these layouts accessible somewhere?

From the Walter Manual,
Quote:
• Old themes, and other themes with no WALTER
If there’s no WALTER code in the rtconfig.txt file of a theme, REAPER will layout almost exactly as it used to in the past, because there is some default WALTER that is used. You can find the file here:
Windows : C:\Program Files\REAPER4\InstallData\Data\default_layouts.txt
OSX : REAPER.app/Contents/Plugins/default_layouts.txt
I recommend that you do not edit this file because not only is this WALTER used in every theme that doesn’t override it, it also provides backup data for any elements you leave unchanged. You might, however, find copying some of the contents into your own WALTER to be a useful place to start, and I’ve included it all in “Appendix 3 - default_layouts.txt” on page 43.

Maybe this helps?

Well, I skimmed to what I thought were the relevant bits. I like to get my feet wet and screw stuff up before the actual "learning" part starts.
I was able to put together a rudimentary version of what I'd like. Have to set the mpc_min_height very low, which breaks other layouts. But this isn't a biggie. Just gives me an excuse to set up more Screensets.
I actually am trying to remain mostly ignorant of WALTER so that I am not tempted to start theming. Cause I'd rather just work on my music you know?
