Yes Cover
I asked BlessedOne72 to send me his stems for Time and a Word to mix. He had vocals, but asked if I would replace them. At first I declined, but once I had all the tracks, I said screw it and went ahead. Anderson? Really? Why do I do these things???

BlessedOne: all music.
Me: all vocs and mix. There were tons of tracks, so yeah, I know I screwed up.

I don't know what you're talking about? It sounds great. Your voice reminds me of some Alan Parsons songs in the past. Extra: I find Jon Anderson vocals sometimes rather annoying. I think yours sounds much better!

+1 After first listening for reference the Yes version on youtube and some other tracks I returned here and find Sammys version more moving, great job.

Hey Paul. As the track count goes up, I start to feel less confident about all the different mixed elements. I'm still glad I did it though; another notch for learning experience.
I can totally hear the Parson's reference. It didn't occur to me you said it.

Anderson to him may be like Geddy Lee is to me. I like Rush, but I can only take his voice in spurts.

Well, since Yes is one of my all time favorite old prog bands, along with K.Crimson, Gentle Giant and many others, I gotta say I'm with Coachz. I think I may be more bearable to some because I can't get as high pitched as he can. Thanks MOrg.

wow! the harmonies are superb! Sam - you're the master here! i know i say this on almost every tune you release - but i'm getting a subtle (maybe more...) Beatles overtone. funny, cuz, i was reading all about Sgt. Pepper's anniversary and recording advancements last night...
Nice effort gents!! The ending is GORGEOUS!!

Hey Mark. And where've you been? Anything in the works?
I was trying to imitate Anderson's melody and harmonies, so I'm not sure where the Beatles come in, unless they influence him way back then. Or maybe when I sing high I kinda sound like them, but that's just the natural tone of my "high voice."
EDIT: I just listened again because you said that. I think part of it is that the bass sounded very "Macca" to me, and some of Blessed guitars sounded reminiscent.
...and of course, copious use of plates (free Nebulas). More than anything I've ever mixed.

Thanks Erik. I haven't been around since the beginning, but I'm pretty sure I've done more collabs with more different people than anyone else since Reaper forums started. Isn't there some sort of Reaper booby prize for that? The booby part alone would be good. hah

Nice work.
Was the 'put on the mike' sound in the beginning intentional?
I guess you have a few vox tracks?
There is some brass and some choir, opera vox in the end that I would like to be louder.
The drums could maybe louder?
It sounded a lot Beatles, but maybe revealed Yes's influence

My mouth sort of dropped reading that because you mentioned everything I said to myself during that "after the song is posted" listen: "I really should have brought up the drum." "Damn, the brass and electric piano really could come up some more" etc. You heard the same things that I did.
The beginning was just me being sloppy.

hyptnotic vibe, smoother/relaxed and less stabby than the original. Great job!

I think singing that high sustained through a whole song was some pretty good vocal practice. Now I know what song to use when I need to warm up. Trying to imitate Anderson should wake up the cords. I usually use the death metal growl for that, but the high stuff should complement that on the opposite end. Thanks for listening bro.

Thx Hugo. I ended up not liking this mix at all, so it's already been redone from the ground up, particularly with more presence for those faaaar away drums. Couldn't help myself. heh
