Default VSTi Key Switch Notes 1 Octave Off vs. REAPER Midi - Justifiable?

I've got Chris Hein Solo Violin (running in Kontakt, natch'). The CH Violin articulation scheme and the REAPER Midi editor notes are one octave off.

If VSTi says "A -1".....

... I've got to enter a note one octave up ("A 1") to achieve desired articulation. Well sir, this is enough to confuse my lil' pea-brain. Is there a way to justify these two note ranges?
