I think mine is ready.
http://picosong.com/2qAu/
Lots of small but cumulative challenges in this mix, and some small editing possibilities to take it that extra 5%.
My arrangement edit was to simply cut out the piano, percussion, and bass right before the solo.
My goals in the mix were to completely avoid my worst habits - 1) Having plugins add volume to a track 2) not using reverb busses where appropriate. I wanted to be able to bypass all the effects on the project and hear the same balances of volume.
I also wanted to do something nifty with Reaper so I used parameter modulation and the JS 3 channel splitter to make a dynamic EQ out of ReaEQ.
edit: added the impulses I had forgot to upload, used for reverb.

Can't upload here because of file size, PM me if there's any issue with that link.

Thanks for your mix, Fergler, very well done. To my ears, much better clarity and definition n the mids and hifgs than the original. And so far, you're in first place

not too much editing, some eq and comp mostly and a little of reaverbate.
no automation at all.
mp3 7 MB
RPP
with more ass (maybe too big) on the drums (and some automation)
mp3 7 MB
RPP

Thanks for doing the mix, but - when clicking on the link(s), connect to Google Drive, press play, and - nothing. Play cursor doesn't move, no sound.
Anyone else have this problem?

when moving the mouse in the upper area , a download-arrow amongst other things will appear.
My browser won't play when reaper is in action in the same time, something with the soundressources.

Hmmm.. plays fine in Safari, Chrome - but not Firefox (for me). Anyway, good stuff. Mix rwo preferred - the song feels like it's best suited for a slightly drunk, late night bar atmosphere, and the enhanced low end and ovelapping low mids do it for me All personal preference, of course, and thanks for the submissions.

Heres my attempt, it was good to just use reaper plugins, i haven't really been using them much for a while, but thats likely to chnge now.
https://app.box.com/s/7b26jk2w67rv85mx0zo62x8jr01vk21q
.rpp & ir files here.

Just as a heads up, mine is mixed in Reaper V3.78, so i hope it will open in V4.x OK.
I'm sure it will, just thought i'd mention it just in case.
Cheers

Yay I did one!
Could only mix in my headphones tonight, so I may come back cringing and asking to redo it later, if I get the chance to use my monitors.... or perhaps get the gumption to load in some other song for A/B or think of any other ideas.
Experimented with:
- Parallel compression on the drums (NY drums sound)
- Parallel compression on VOX (trying to make them airy)
- Mid/Side mastering
- Ducking electric guitar for vox
- A few other things
Only used cockos plugins (besides kanaka, but that installs with Reaper). Had a lot of fun and hopefully I can get some constructive criticism / feedback!
MP3 - http://picosong.com/2LQq/
Project File - https://stash.reaper.fm/v/23480/2015-...mixContest.RPP
Woot!

So here's another mix:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wrsxcphhjx...y_sts.mp3?dl=0
I only used plugins included with Reaper (still using Reaper 3.78 btw). I also used two additional drum samples (kick and snare) triggered by the original drum tracks using ReaGate and ReaSamplomatic5000. I tried to do without IRs, using ReaVerbate and some JS Delay instead.
I'll submit the project (rpp) file shortly, but first I have to clean up the mess (somebody told me to stop messing...) of unused/bypassed plugins, weird routings, redundant send tracks, and the like. Watch this space.
Edit: Added rpp file and drum samples (see zip attachments)

Ok here's mine. Pretty vanilla apart from the gimmick at the start. I just did it like I'd do a live band. Never attempted this in Reaper before and never mixed on these speakers either, so any feedback/criticism welcome. Curious to know how these Dell "monitors" translate... Fun song and fun contest, thanks!

can't seem to attach the project file here so it's below...

Okay I need to change my submission (lol)
- After hearing it on my monitors, I decided to add more bass, and lower the vox
- I forgot to put ReaFir in linear phase mode for the Mid/Side treatment part(doh)
- I decided to have the bass duck out for the kick a tad
- Reduced the VOX send to room verb a smidge
- panned the E-Guitar's ambience stem away from the main sound (was same pan before)
New Mp3: http://picosong.com/22QD/
New Project File: https://stash.reaper.fm/v/23483/2015-...mixContest.RPP
Note: The tracks at the very veryyyyyy bottom (the ones that say "Final") will let you switch between hearing a final "mix", and a mix plus extra mastering treatment stuffs I'm trying out.

Oops. They were supposed to be included in the zip file containing the rpp, but apparently they're not.
Added them to post #19 above (the zip attachment also includes a brief readme file, in case ReaSamplomatic is unable to locate the audio files).

Okay, I really liked this little funky tune and since the wav files were provided, I thought I'd like to see how SMDrums would do with it.
So I programmed a midi file for the drums, basically for myself so that I could see the action of the SMdrums in a tune like this. However, I kind of liked how the drums turned out so decided to post it. They're probably not as good as the real thing but I thought they turned at least okay.
I didn't do anything special with the rest of the tracks. Mainly I just used Guitar Rig 5 on the lead and added verb where it was needed. The tracks were already well recorded.
At any rate I don't think my rpp file will be much good to anyone, I used 4 or 5 instances of ReaVerb with IRs and did very little EQing.
I made the midi file for SMDrums but if anybody would like it I'll post it, however, it will take some remapping for other drums.
I should probably add that the snare I used in this is the new snare made for SMDrums that I haven't posted yet. This is the first chance I've had to really check it out with a mix. Actually it's the first time I've had a chance to use the SMDrums for somethink cool like this.
Any way, here is the mp3.

Hi ponk, sorry about that, I didn't realize it had to be all Reaper FX. Actually I didn't necessarily post this to be in the contest, I just liked the way my drums turned out.
However, I did change the guitars and used ReaEQ instead, so I thought I'd post this again and this time post my rpp file along with my drums. I also used some ReaVerb with IRs for verb that I included.
Here's the new mp3 using ReaEQ on the guitars>>
https://db.tt/dWWFGVta
Here are the audio drum tracks (146MB)>>
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8s...ew?usp=sharing
This is the Reaper rpp files along with the IR files. This also includes my midi tracks.>>
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8s...ew?usp=sharing
I kept the original drums in the project file so if you don't want to download the audio for my drums you can use the original. However I didn't work with those drums to make them sound better so you'll have to set them up yourself.
At any rate, I decided to repost in case anybody wanted to check it out.

Thanks Suleiman for the very kind words.
Yeah, I was really happy with how our drums turned out.
