Scuffham for metal?
Is this a good amp sim for metal? I see a lot of people say its good for other things. I downloaded it a while back for fifteen free days, but never even got the chance to use the darn thing at the time!

No.
TSE X50 is the best I've found so far.

I'm pretty sure you could get another 'demo' if you asked S-Gear support nicely, but...
S-Gear is not good for hi-gain anything, but excels from clean to mid-gain (think 'classic' rock).
Have you checked out the plugins from Ignite amps (The Anvil):
http://www.igniteamps.com/en/audio-plug-ins
Or check out TSE for more hi-gain stuff:
http://www.tseaudio.com/home.

The older v1 version was only supported by donations. New v2 is not free.

I am sure you could get another 15 days...
but it has a great Clean, you could use pedals into it (real or vst)...
Even if you didn't use it exclusively for Metal, you wouldn't be sorry for buying it...it would see some use for sure...

Stupid. I already HAVE the tse x30, duh me. I got it when it was free... however, according to the tse site, I don't have some of the addons of the paid version. I don't have the cab either

Scuffman is awesome for hi-gain stuff, just put a simple "tube-screamer" type vst in front of it (like people do with many real metal signal chains. Many good metal hi-gain tones do not come from just the amp. Don't let anyone convince you that S-Gear can't do metal, that's silly.

I recommend the Ignite Amps TSB-1 "Tyrant Screamer" pedal in front of S-Gear:
http://www.igniteamps.com/en/audio-plug-ins
Use it all the time, it sounds good and has a bit more range that most normal tube-screamer type pedals.

+1
I like Ignite amps very much, but still like TSE 808 (and other stomp boxes better) as well as Distorque Audio stuff (very light on CPU too, if it matters).

The new Wayfarer amp in S-Gear can do metal quite good. Don't forget a Tube Screamer plugin in front of it!

The wayfarer does a VERY good emulation of the mesa boogie MKIII which is what Metallica used for all of their metal tones in the 80's. Its definitely NOT just for classic rock.
The key is using a good metal cab which unfortunately is not included with S-gear. You'll have to get a 3rd party cab for the best metal tone. Luckily there are TONS of great free metal cabs.

Tbh I find that the impulses that come with SGear to be the best. tried some stuff from Redwirez and they didn't sound as good as the ones in S-Gear.
Which free ones from the list you supplied do you like?

LOL. The cabs the come with S-gear ARE redwirez.
The problem with the included cabs is that they are all classic rock based cabs: basically marshall, fender and vox. You want bogner, orange, mesa, Engl, diezl, etc.
Of the commercial cabs i think the ownhammer cabs sound the best but Redwire and recabinet are both very good.
For free the Gods cab is a great Mesa 4x12 with multiple mics to choose from. Also the Catharsis cab pack is also good. Guitar hack isn't bad either.
The 7 deadly sins cab pack has almost every free cab in one download

I'm running my guitar signal into a Boss SD-1 (SimulAnalog)- VST,into a Marshall Guv'nor (AXP) - VST,...into Guitar Rig 5 ...where I use just a Marshall Plexi and nothing else.....this then goes into NadIR.....and I have a full complement of IRs that I use....
this is my basic rig,and this is also the base FX setup that I put into my "main" guitar track.......this track gets sent to an FX bus,.....and I also have it sent to 4 other tracks, each of these 4 tracks is running NadIR with various IRs...and I have them paired and panned left and right.
I haven't been using the 4 extra tracks much though,...as I am getting great tones by just mixing the main guitar track and the FX bus track.
These tracks are grouped, and I have a track that I use as a Master fader.
