Default External Editor stopped launching? Broken in 4.21

I use Reaper 4.21 on Mac OS X, and Sound Forge as my editor on Parallels/Windows XP.

i don't know if this is a 4.21 issue, but now my Editor no longer launches??

This was very fast even over parallels before, and was never a problem going from Mac to Windows and back again, Reaper was brilliant!

Now even with re-selecting my editors, this seems broken?

Should I roll back?

Sorry, I don't use an editor, Buckman.

I just tried this out of curiosity (I don't often use an audio editor these days) and it works fine here on Win XP with Reaper 4.21 set to open Cool Edit Pro as external audio editor.

Maybe it's a mac/parallels-specific problem?

BTW. Did you check to make sure your settings in Options->Prefs->External Editors has not somehow been lost/corrupted?

Yes Im pretty sure I did with re-selecting it... I'll have to keep looking.

It puts me off a little as with Cockos I normally just update to the latest version without thinking as they are so good, but the last two updates have something broken, or not working and i''ve had to roll back

Well, to be sure, I suggest you remove whatever is in the External Editor window and then add it again from scratch (browse for your editor program); Should take all of about 30 seconds

Yes done that, and it still doesnt relaunch?

Reaper goes 'offline' but nothing is launched? usually, very snappily, Sound Forge opens up, and the waveform is waiting inside?

I'm a bit baffled!

I vaguely remember noticing this and figuring out that the slots were offset. Try adding another editor in addition, see if that one opens.

Yes, that does sound odd!
I take it you have tried launching Sound Forge manually (just to make sure that it isn't a problem with Sound Forge itself)?

Could you expand on this? Not sure what you mean about slots?

Yes SoundForge runs manually everytime and is fine, its just broken between Reaper and SF, when launching from within Reaper?

Weird...

Just cleared and re-installed the "external editors" and still nothing.

Tried as a test to install "reaper.app" which relaunches the OS X Reaper as an Editor to itself. This works!

But when going through to Parallels, this now no longer works???

This was always rock solid between Reaper and Parallels. When pressing my Editor, it launches Parallels ok, but doesn't launch the Editor itself? So its 'half-way' there - Anyone know whats happened suddenly?

OK i think I've got it..

For anyone else having trouble this is a PARALLELS problem which is caused when you switch off "Shared Desktop" in the settings/configure.

Weird one as this shouldn't affect the desktop, or should I say not affect an editing program which has nothing to do with the desktop?

Anyway hope that helps someone.. Just switch on Shared Desktop.
