Reaper and Vista - yeah or neah?
I just got my wife's old computer which is running windows vista 32 bit SP1. Is it worth installing reaper or just problems galore? I have vista...but there is more CPU power and ram is this one than my old one.
thanks,

Reaper YES! - Vista NO!
Do yourself a favour and put XP or 7 on there...

I've been using Vista since it came out and my system is rock solid. Three monitors, Alesis 8-channel FW interface, MIDI usb, Video card upgrade, Ext usb Terabyte drives...etc. Never a "vista" related problem. Guess I'm lucky ?!?!?

Never had an OS related problem with reaper and vista (on both 32 bit and 64 bit versions). Curious to know what kind of problems other people have been experiencing.

I got a new laptop with Vista on it - it's RAM usage was almost 1gb without starting any thing...
Factor into this that most desktops at the time were only loaded with 1 gig o' RAM and sent a quarter of that to the onboard graphics.
Compare this to the Dux XP partition on the same laptop that ticks over at 70mb....
Even with a RAM upgrade Vista is just stodgy to use... Do your self a favour and try something (anything)else..

Agree with the rest: Anything and Vista = no.
Worst resource management ever...

This Vista computer does have 3gb ram, and I'm only using it for BFD drums and midi, maybe a few plugs, so would I be OK? I agree that vista is the worst operating system microsoft ever released...

I went to Windows 8 from Vista x64. Had to reload my apps but it was worth it. Runs noticeably faster. Win8 handles services way better. It can run more than one audio output device too.
Win8 is $40 until the end of the month. Also can download Media Center Pak free.
Try Windows8 Update Adviser to find out more about your PC.
If you do get Win8, get "classic shell" (free) or Start8 ($5) to make the transistion easier.

I had Vista for three years without a problem in Reaper(or anything else).
I upgraded to 8 and notice some improvements, so you might consider upgrading as the price is right at the moment.

Vista 64 bit and Reaper 32 bit
I have had no problems at all. However, I don't record. I only produce electronic music with loops and midi VSTi sometimes with a number of VSTs but hardly ever more than 20 or so tracks.
Vista 64bit SP2, Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200.
Reaper 32 bit v4.32
