First of all, there are a few fairly useful (if slightly out of date) text tutorials tucked away on the Cockos Wiki here: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.ph...sonic_Tutorial. And the main reference is also worth a look: http://reaper.fm/sdk/js/js.php. But yes, absolutely JS should get some better tutorials at some point.

But, also... "improve existing devices"? What for? I mean, I agree that JS should have more user-friendly options for GUI, but I don't think there's any need to overhaul or add to the current JS objects that come with Reaper. I don't want to see JS turn into some kind of 2 GB library of pre-built effects. That's not the point of built-in DSP level environments like Max/MSP and Reaktor. The point is the ability to create new objects for yourself. Really the only thing JS needs is a bit more user-friendliness, particularly in terms of object GUI. A graphical environment would be amazing, of course, but I won't hold my breath.

Eh. I don't think Bitwig's midi editor is up to the same standards as FL really. Sure, it has a few nice Reaperish features based around editing multiple clips, but it still lacks quite a lot of what I think of as basic things (entering new notes at the same length as the last note selected, ability to make fullscreen, etc). I do like how much less capricious it is than Reaper's midi editor though.

I would genuinely love to see reaper come with two dozen or so demo projects in various styles, but I'm probably in a minority there : )

Also, the main problem is that right now any demo projects included with Reaper would have to use only audio clips and ReaSynth. Which kinda makes it less fun tbh.

This stuff is kinda beyond the scope of a feature request really

Also, a relevant/familiar quote: "I suspect some would be more convinced of its excellence if Cockos significantly raised the licence cost, but those in the know (and I consider myself one of that number) simply regard it as a bargain."

Really?? What makes you say that? Honestly, there's barely anything in common between Bitwig and Reaper. Is it because Bitwig allows a bit more workflow customisation than Ableton? Because really, almost everything does.

Who is talking about 2Gb libraries bla bla bla, did you see max msp or max4live devices to be 2 Gigabytes? Maybe Reaktor has a few that they are actually samplers with many presets(WAV Files)...

Eh. For some reason I thought Kontakt was a pack for Reaktor or something. I guess I was wrong.

But yeah, I was mainly thinking of Reaktor. It just seems like some people just use Reaktor as a pack of premade synths, which seems kinda pointless.

I think to be No. 1, and literally displace ProTools, Cubase and Logic somehow, Reaper mainly needs a new GUI, area selection and an audio editor :0)

Default Kontakt and other multi-out VSTis

I'm still hoping for a way to have midi to and audio from multi-out VSTis like Kontakt on the same channel. Separating MIDI and audio feedback routing would really help!

The screen clutter and the danger of losing automation data while moving items when having 2 channels per instrument (1 midi, 1 audio) is just too high for me.

I seriously considering going back to Pro Tools for the next project because of that (and maybe the better automation system as well). Won't be a happy move though since there are so many things I love about Reaper.

Hi Mathias! Just go to project settings - advanced settings tab and check (Allow Feedback in routing)

Please Please Please :

Dear Reaper Devs,

Please, please, please : Make it possible in R5 to read Tempo Tags from complete .mp3 tracks.
And also read/determine tempo CORRECTLY from audio loops and or complete tracks (when they do not have Tempo tags embedded).

If this would be possible, then, IMHO, Reaper 5 would be an amazing competitor with Ableton Live users who work loop based and/or make DJ mixes.
Cause the stretch algorythm in Reaper is far, far superior in terms of soundquality then Live's !

But in my experience, when i am in Reaper's Media Explorer and have Tempo sync on, auditioning very clear and distinct "4 to the floor" loops or complete tracks, Reaper often has the bpm of this audio complete wrong.
Making it a hassle to line up to Reaper's Project tempo.

Even the possibility in R5 to fill in the tempo of an audio loop or a complete (steady bpm) song would make a dream come true for me.

Hope other people feel the same !

Robbie

Thanks for trying to help, but feedback routing introduces an latency on channels were it is used. So these tracks won't be in time! The latency depends on the buffer setting. Also, the automatic delay compensation is switched off.

If you are starting and ending your loop (drag on the waveform) at the start of the measure and it's an even beat you should never have this problem. you can double or halve it in the explorer if it's still wrong.

Make everything snap to everything (all optional of course).

Some of this has been fixed in v4, but not all.

Here's a couple of things that were left out.

1. Left drag to make a time selection (loop point) doesn't snap to media items.

2. Dragging markers doesn't snap to media items.

Please vote here: http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=2263

Thanks

Perhaps snap-to-markers could work based on which item the mouse cursor is above when dragging the marker.

Default Reaper 5 wish list

- Record mode: auto-punch marker(s) (This one would be great and very, very useful)
- Render with metronome (Great for backing tracks and easier than insert click source)
- Normalize on render (Very useful)

O.M.G you are right Mathias, i was working with very low buffer all this time and i didn't notice (Thanks for telling me)...
I guess this is what we need, a device like Ableton's External Instument:

Default ReaTune Love!!

I don't have a lot of Cash, so I use REAPER's plugins for almost everything.

Make Reatune work similar to all the others:
- DAW tighter integration (Logic Pro X, Cubase 7, Studio One)
- Showing actually the wavforms, so that we can move them instead of the read lines.
- Individual control of each tune like, vibrato, attack, etc.
- Better handling of the "Sssss". It transforms it into a "Zzzzz" sound...

Try GSnap http://www.gvst.co.uk/downloads.htm . I checked it and it works like Autotune by Antares.

A Score Edit ... I think many people would appreciate. Or perhaps the ability to work with MuseScore. With a dedicated synchronization. Would it be possible? It would be a good alternative.

Three wishes for RS5k :

- proper choke groups introduced into RS5k itself so samples can be played as one shot and still have choke ( you know, like every other sampler ever )

- midi cc trigger start and end ( if cc # x is in between value a and b , then trigger, otherwise dont)

- some way to quickly launch multiple instances with pre assigned start end notes and names , other than using templates ( maybe using a text file to quickly list the notes and names )

2 FR 's which will Reaper make a strong(er) competitor to Ableton Live and much needed for me and for others i hope:

Ability to manually input the (correct) BPM for an Audio item in Item Properties, be it a loop or a complete song.

Way better BPM detection for whole songs (ala Traktor Pro or Mixedinkey)

Pls devs consider the possibility to change your mind about the link between monitoring and arming...they must be completely indipendent!

I know there is the option "Record: disable (input monitoring only)", but for who massively use external hardware it's a very annoying system to work with (switch to disable, switch to record, switch to disable, switch to record and again and again..).

Why don'y just remove that option and make the things very simple:

monitor button on: we ear the input

monitor button off: we don't ear the input

arm button on: we can record

arm button off: we can't record

Don't want to be polemic, just a pray for your next big update. Thanks for the attention!

+1, Spinlud. Coming from cubase I find the existing implementation of this quite confusing...

As I'm in it, my wishes for Reaper 5 :

1) A retrospective record feature : this is probably the one I'm missing the most, at least for MIDI, after having used Cubase for several years,

2) A NATIVE RPN/NRPN messages support for controlling Reaper actions, without the need to use a convoluted setup involving both a virtual MIDI port and OSCII-bot (see this thread for more details : http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=136960),

3) At least, either a track inspector, or two different mixers so we could use one of them as so, without having to deal with screensets,

4) Let's get rid of the horrible blended and unpredictable coloring of the tcp panel, using the 'Tint track panel background' option : it's either a matter of implementing something that already exists for, i.e., the 'Media item background fill mode' in the theme editor, or making the 'Tint...' option really useful by tinting the background EXACTLY as choosed, using the 'Track color' commands. This with an option to be able to color ONLY the index zone and not the full panel.

5) Walter/theming improvements (this is really urging, in my view) :
- true nested layouts, in order to avoid having to make several folders which contain nearly the same set of files... URGENT !
- the ability to color ONLY the tcp index zone, according to the user choice made with the 'Track color' commands,
- a true fader mode for the mcp.sendlist, without the horrible and persisting 0 level value mark,
- a true customization of the MIDI editor, including an option for the font used in it, a specific color background for the ruler and the ability to resize the keys zone...
- the ability to also theme the FX windows.

That's all, folks (for the time being...) !

Single biggest wtf? when I came to Reaper, so +100 from me. I've gotten used to it, but I've seen it confuse my friends and bandmates when they go to the program for the first time. You're quite right, the logic behind it makes no sense to me.

It's not too big a deal until one has to send monitor mixes and the like to other people in real-time or using talkback mics. I am forced to tell all the tracks I don't want to record to not record (but still monitor).

In this case, I would love to hear back from the devs why this feature was implemented this way. Surely there is a good reason, when other DAWs don't do it this way.

If nothing else, can we have yet another option to clog up the preferences window to de-link the record and monitors?

Just a small one, but would take away some annoyance;

Situation:
- i save Project
- I close Reaper
- Reaper asks if i want to save the Project (lol).

Would be nice if this is fixed.

I'm going to suggest you clicked on something or maybe changed something view-wise. Merely changing a selection or view would be seen as a change.

If I save and truly do nothing afterwards, Reaper simply closes with no prompt.

Hi Serr,

Thank you for clearing this up for me:
I didn't know that solely clicking somewhere to change focus is interpreted by Reaper as a change in Project,so is asking to save when closing Reaper.

Devs, Please forget my so called FR ;0)

Really the only thing I want is for Reaper to allow me to access VST folders from the mixer panel without having to access a three-tier menu.

Would be great to have possibility to select multiple envelope points and set them to the desired value.

It is really painful to click constantly on various points and type values manually when I need them to be on the same level.

2) automation items
3) non linear items launcher/recorder in a dockable window (ableton/bitwig)

Ditto. I so want to switch from Cubase 7 to Reaper, i am on the fence on this because of the video. For film scoring, it is so nice that Cubase allows importing video and separating out the video and audio to separate tracks and also showing the video as thumbnails on a dedicated track, lots of video thumbnail options, and of course the ability to display the video in a window as Reaper already does, but also to display the video window on a second monitor.
