Default Stillwell Plugins - Worth it?

I love the JS versions of the Stillwell plugs - I've tried the demo VSTs and they seem very similar, if not identical. Some of the language on the Stillwell site (like the BADASS/GROOVE "technology") is a little off putting, making it hard to tell what's actually going on behind the scenes. Of course - It's about the sound!

Mostly I'm interested in the Bombardier (for which there is no JS equivalent as far as I know), BadBussMojo and the Rocket.

In my onion Stillwell plugs are the bomb. Definitely worth the loot.
But, don't take my word for it. Download the trials and and give them a run.

they won't add crappy "trial ware" noises to your mix.

I have CMX and it really rocks my vocals. Incredible. From Schwa, I picked up Schope and am eyeing a Spectro license as well. These are no toys; they work wonders.

like tallisman said, just download the trials and see if you like the plug-ins.
i own 1973, major tom and event horizon+
they get used in every project (mix and mastering). they are affordable and sound very nice imho.

I own licenses for Tin Man, Rocket and 1973. They are most certainly worth the money and get used plenty. 1973 is my favourite EQ by a long shot and gets used on pretty much all my songs.
Rocket is a great compressor with a really good New York style parallel compression option and sounds warm and full.
Tin Man is a very cool effect plugin that works really well with my analog synths for some creative textures.

Gotta add my +1 to this. They are truely kick ass plugins. Beautiful interfaces as well, which I always like. Makes mixing that little bit more fun!

I love Stillwell compressors. Rocket in particular is bread and butter for much squashing at my place.

I purchased licences for Event Horizon, The Rocket, Major Tom, Vibe EQ and 1973, and together with ReaEQ and ReaComp they are the only plugins I use for my EQing, compressing and limiting needs. I use ReaEQ for cuts and filtering and ReaComp for gentle compression, and stillwell for color-adding boosts and compressing.

It actually improved my mixes focusing only on a couple of plugins.

BADASS and GROOVE are both genuine 'Schwa did an incredibly clever thing' clever things. The names? Yeah, several reviewers didn't realise that was a joke either, heh, oops, etc... Hopefully I've proved I don't troll about here talking up everything I've ever worked on, so FWIW IMO Olga's the most exciting sounding softsynth ever made, I use it a lot, every day, on everything.

I've had success taming very dynamic vocal performances with Bombardier and recommend it highly.

IIRC they all have free unrestricted demo versions. Which means stop asking and start trying.

(BTW I think some of them are some of the best plugins out there-- Rocket is my favorite plugin compressor)

Download some full band recording multitrack files from the Telefunken site (new material on site!) if you don't have any own full-miced acoustic stuff at hand and then use them to try and compare Bombardier with other (buss) compressors. Don't use anything on the tracks, just correct the track volumes a bit where necessary and send the whole rough shebang through the compressors in order to give them a bit of a run for their money.

Check how they handle typical extreme dynamics within a complex signal, their "glueing" capabilities and how they change the sound at comparable gain reduction values with similar settings. Then come back and tell us about your findings, please.

I can't function without my 1973, wicked eq.

Love the rocket too.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Bombardier. It is DEEP! It offers a lot of functions. If I could only have one compressor ITB, that would be it.
1973 EQ is as good as people say. Try it. Your tracks will sound sexier. warmer. just musical.
Vibe EQ is great to make an instrument track stand out more. I use it as a preamp on the mix buss. Just a little colour (yes the British spelling, it is that good). Adds depth.
The Rocket gets a lot of use in my mixes.
Transient Monster is good to make sampled instruments pop. Try it on a sampled piano or strings track. just a touch. That is in addition to the drum usage.

And they are fabulous values. Without a doubt!

BadBussMojo. I wish Stillwell or someone would offer an online instructional to master it.

The interfaces are inspiring and never get old. They look like props from "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

White Tie, did you mean to make BBMojo look like a Klingon heart monitor? :-)

PS. I need to get more familiar with the Schwa side of the equation. CMX rocks. Tin Man sounds enticing. and OLGA.
