I can confirm the 5.92 behavior. Identical overlapping notes are always deleted.

Isn't there an option that governs this behavior?

The notes that have identical start and end positions are eaten even if that is off.

I posted some details in response to a thread where this first showed up:

5.93 is the same.

I tried it with other DAWs and none of them did this.

Did you make sure that you have "Options->Automatically correct overlapping notes" disabled?

Yes the first thing I tried.
What's it doing when you draw or copy a note to the same length and position and drag them on another ?

Ah, I see what you mean.

So I suppose that option doesn't seem to be applied when copying notes by mouse dragging on top of another note with same position/length. That would indeed be a bug.

Dunno if this is useful info regarding this topic:

When you don't use mouse for vertical movement, but use these Actions:

Edit: Move notes up one semitone
Edit: Move notes down one semitone

..to move a note onto another note with same position and length, and then move that note up or down (again: with the 2 Actions), the moved note won't be eaten,
regardless of the setting "automatically correct overlapping notes"

Reaper 5.94pre2 - 64bit.

So that's another bug - it should fix overlapping notes with those actions if the option is enabled
