Yeah I wish Windows would allow for a self-contained 'package' style application, it is far more logical...

Seems that 2 questions do pop up in mind though ..
When on mac and wanting a portable install of Reaper:
1) How do you install the SWS extension set to this portable version ?
2) Is there any performance degration in Reaper cause Reaper is started and runned from a USB stick ?

Have to move the sws.dylib file to the UserPlugins folder in that portable Reaper directory.

That I'm not 100% sure about. I guess try it and see.
If it seems slower, just make a folder on their computer, copy everything from the USB stick into that folder and run it from there.
It's still portable and won't mess up anything on the studio's computer.

Hi there,
I wonder if this is going to preserve my waves and other third party vst and instruments?
If I want to continue/start a mix in other studio, will all the third party plugins open?
Thanks

Sorry.
Third Party Plugins are separate and are based on your system.

Exactly, so for 100% project compatibility between different computers, you should have installed all the plugins which are used in a reaper project on on all these computers.

This guy is suggesting that it is possible to have your third party plugins in the USB flash.
I gotta give it a try..

Surely it's possible but depends also on how the plugin license is working and if you are running your portable Reaper (and/or plugins) on your regular computer or on some guest computer.
The real difference comes in trying to run your portables in a guest computer as what could be called true portable. Meaning, where the given plugin is not already installed to the guest host and you won't install anything into that host either. Many plugins which will run portable just fine on computer where they were licensed to will not work on other computers unless you can install at least the license into those machines. Sometimes it can also be a separate player, software/license manager etc. which has to be installed to the host even if the plugin itself could work portable. So those are not truly portable either.
