Default Scroll Bars Color

I wish that we could select the color of the horizontal and vertical scroll bars in the edit window/tab.
As it is, they can get lost in the clutter of editing multiple tracks, and they move around and change size as one zooms in and out (as they should do).
A nice bright yellow would look nice against the dark gray frame, methinks.
If this feature already exists, please forgive my deficient observational skills and describe to me the location of such adjustments.
I could not find any such option in the well-hidden Actions/theme development/tweaker list.
Thank you for your attention.

You'd have to edit the scrollbar.png file for the color theme.

But IMO scrollbars are a clunky and obsolete way of navigating the interface. Personally, I like a combination of right mouse drag for smaller movements and navigator for large movements. The navigator becomes very useful if you color your tracks in a meaningful way, which you can do automatically by track name.

You may want to try these :-)

Do you know who to get access to the files within a theme?

If you don't have the ability to create your own scrollbar png file, like you don't work in Photoshop... tell us what theme you use and what color you want [in RGB values] and I'll get it done for you.

Default Scroll Bars Color

Thank you folks for responding.
Since I am too newbee to Reaper, I don't know what a .PNG file is, or where to find one (other than the link shared), or what it does (I assume it has something to do with color).

Hopi, thank you for the offer.
Bright yellow or orange will do.
Frankly, I was a bit surprised that these little items could not be edited, since everything else could be in some way.

It's happened to me too, and many others I suspect. But don't let it get to you mate. I for one appreciate your contributions to this community.

at the least in the themes area I've posted the link to the PSD that will let any PS user make color mods of the scrollbars png in short order...

someone will find it handy I'm sure

I'll try the orange one hopi ;-)
and the purple one from skipper.

They may be a little "loud", but let's see ;-)

The template is no good for me, I only use paint.net - for *very* basic editing...

Otherwise - it's back to battleship grey ;-)

what color do you want?

if you really are fussy, you can provide all these
in RGB values:

background color
the sliding bar color
the 'dots' color on the ends of the sliding bars
the plus and minus signs colors

Hi hopi - I'm going to have a look at this today.

I just thought yesterday, that it would be good if the dark grey one (I'm using a modified Commala 5 dark theme) stood out a little (I was in the MIDI editor at the time).

I'll look at the orange and purple one and see what they look like. I don't know if they'll be bright orange and purple (like the png files) (that will be too much) or if the grey will mask them a bit ;-)

If I can set those different colors - then I'll look in rtconfig and do a search for "scrollbar" and see what I can come up with.

I'm learning how to hack this file. I've been playing with the png files a little - but I'm no genius here. I just use paint.net to change colors a little by adjusting saturation/hue/brightness. I don't know how to do things like - remake a button, knob, scrollbar etc ;-)

So - I'm not fussy what color it is - I just want it to stand out a little better. I actually like the orange and purple - so I'll start with them.

I'll report back ;-)

Well, I have to admit, I like the purple ones from skippertag ;-)

They're not as "loud" as I was afraid they'd be. They're very visible though ;-)

I tried to make them a little darker - but they behaved weirdly (ie one or the other became 2 scroll bars) - so this is entering an area I know nothing about. Not to worry - they are absolutely fine as they are, and a welcome addition to my theme customisation! ;-)

So - thanks a lot to both hopi and skippertag. Your work is appreciated ;-)

PS - In case anyone else is interested, I also copied the same file (after backing up the originals as *.png-original-safe) to scrollbar_3.png - so now it works in the MIDI editor too.
(I have no idea what scrollbar_2 would be for)

The file I made and put on the stash is really for the Default 5 theme since that is what the OP asked for... hahaha and he has not been seen here ever again... [some people, ya know?]

the PSD template is also for that theme's scroll bars so it may or may not work for other themes...
the template makes it super easy to change the colors for all the parts and pieces of the scroll bar png.

some thoughts if you use other graphic programs to change the colors:

you MUST keep as is the special pink control lines... if you don't know what special pink is about ... read up about it in White Ties sticky for it.

Also... for Paint dot Net... I see they have file type plugins and one for photoshop PSD files
https://forums.getpaint.net/forum/46-filetype-plugins/

so maybe that would let you open the PSD template in Paint

EDIT:
well crap... I went and got it and the PSD file type plugin for it also and tested with Paint.net

while it will import the PSD it does not do it very well since it does not seem able to properly deal with
groups like PS does...
That fact alone defeats the purpose of my template... because with PS groups you can, in a stroke, change the color
of all the objects contained in that group..
Paint is [just as I remember it] a terrible PITA, although I can appreciate it being free...
I use a quite old version of PS and even so it is a zillion miles more advanced and functional... so it goes
Yes, I know it is just my opinion...

Hi hopi,

Well, I got the addon for paint.net and I'm able to open your template - but everything is blank except for the pink lines. Is that the way ot's supposed to look?

Do I have to carefully select the 3 areas and fill in a colour?

To be honest - I'm quite happy with the purple one ;-)

yeah so here:

https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/2112/s...0Dot%20Net.zip

get that download and read the instructions...

I had to alter the PSD file so Paint could use it...

gotta say it is rather tedious compared to photoshop but it will work OK

anyway, with this one you can make colorized scroll bars to your hearts content....

happy trails

Hi hopi,

I keep telling you that the purple one is fine ;-)

OK - if you insist... ;-)

I had to "fix" the template a little bit. I put my own (from Commala 5) scrollbar.png in as the "reference" in the bottom. If this doesn't come out well, I'll use the purple one - it has different arrows, + - etc.

Anyway - I'll try this out tomorrow - I *think* I know what to do. I *think* I only need to worry about the horizontal and vertical bars - and the when I enable their layer - the magic wand picks them up perfectly.
So, I'll try overlaying them on top of the "original" - with everything else disabled.

NOTE: There's loads of pink visible on the "original" layer, and the one I dragged in as well - so you didn't need to bother with the "pink" layer. It has no effect unless the bottom "original" layer is off.

NOTE2:
Quote:

Yeah - but it's free. ;-)
I'm supposed to be playing music, not dorking around wiht this stuff ;-)
(note smileys all over the place...)

Thanks a lot for this - you *really* didn't have to bother.

I have to say - I've been getting loads of help from the Reaperites around here (with my theme, with a script, you, and just generally ansering questions). You're a good bunch. As soon as I'm "tooled up" I'll be able to give something back. (like custom scrollbars!) ;-)

EDIT - PS, your readme file is a NFO file. That doesn't mean anything in Windows, so I opened it in WordPad (no Word on the music PC) and saved as a docx.

Well, after *hours* playing around with Paintshop Pro on my "non music" partition - and going back and forth to try it on Reaper - I finally came up with a few that I like.

I uploaded them here
https://stash.reaper.fm/manage_theme...scrollbars.zip

This is my first contribution to the stash ;-)
This is also why, I don't usually get involved in this kind of graphics stuff. It takes me a half a day to do what some of you guys can throw together in 20 minutes ;-)

I based these on skippertag's purple one (thanks a lot for that purple one!). It has much nicer arrows and +-.
I darkened the "background part a little, and used a "3D button" preset on the scrollbars. Also - hopi's template creates the rounded edge bars - rather than the square ones that were there originally.

Anyway - I'm moving on now. I want to see about replacing some of the buttons on the transport bar ;-)

Thanks a lot for your help guys. I've learned a lot - but I hope I don't have to use this info any time soon. I'd rather just *use* Reaper, than *customise* it all day... ;-)

hehe... guess who, too? ;-)

And actually I have a feeling that the color of the new? native faders at the mcp fxlist somehow also is inspired by it ;-)

Reading this thread I've just double checked some other colors again and what can I say - it was never easier and more eye-pleasing to find the arrangement scrollbars, if you ask me.

But sadly - the scrollbars of the other (native) edit windows (Taskmanager, Preferences, etc) are still not editable, aren't they? These are really unpleasing to me to find..
