Default Working with MIDI - first post

Hi Guys,

This is my first post, thanks for approving me onto the Reaper forum. I'm back into music composition & recording after a ten year break. A friend recommended the Reaper DAW and I'm a few days into the trial so far, just testing things, getting my audio settings and FX set up, reading through the PDF manual slowly. I'll have heaps of questions to troubleshoot/post on this forum in the near future.

A lot of the work I'll be doing will be with MIDI. Not only running a drum pad or MIDI keyboard into the program, but directly creating and editing MIDI items by hand.

Any general tips that will help me embark upon the learning curve here, especially with regard to getting a lot of good virtual instruments and plugins working well for MIDI synths, percussion, etc?

Since you've already found the User Guide http://www.cockos.com/reaper/userguide.php you probably also know about videos http://www.cockos.com/reaper/videos.php Well worth spending some time on because there are lots of useful and not at all obvious tips in them.

To get a good start with some instruments and effects without spending too much have a look at http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=52382 You may be surprised how much quality stuff you can get for free.
