LOL, thought it was just me. Not sure what the terminology means in the voting link, but if Padre says we need it, then we need it.

This feature applies to the "UI FX" control (currently in RemoteSL beta mapping). It would give us:

- Real param names instead of "FxParam1-8"
- Real param values instead of 0-127
- Param value refresh on mouse/automation changes

one thing I've noticed if I crash out of reaper (due to me trying out some cheap plug ins) then when I restart reaper and go to the mixer page of my remote sl I get multiple "automaps" to choose from on the left display.

The names are a bit weird and I get a new one for each crash out of reaper.

right now I have five with names like this

L10RfToO ??? ??? L10RFxToOL10RFxToO

hope that makes sense.

Maybe there is a command to "flush" automap on restart of reaper?

"???" is the init name for new projects.

I've experienced that too. The flush procedure consists in reopening the Automap Server (while I'm investigating)

Hey Padre, bumped into this thread only yesterday (been deep in Reason-land these days and not spending much time following Reaper) but was blown away by the responses to what you're doing for Reaper and Novation.

Haven't tried this yet (not sure which version to use either - will test drive and see) but am glad to see there is a full implementation for the buttons on my Remote Zero Finally (wish something could be done with my X-Station )

Am going to hopefully get a chance to test drive this weekend, though by now it seems unlikely that I will find anything that hasn't already been thrashed out by all your beta testers to date.

Thanks for all the work you have done, awesome, really really awesome

@document02 - thanks for the Reason tip at the start of the thread. Seen your avatar here and over at the props site and it has taken me how long to put 2 and 02 together?

Default sounds good, can't get it up

Hi: the plugin sounds good, but i cain't get it (or the controller without it) to work. Lots of options for midi i/o that aren't covered in the cockous/novation info sheet. I'm using the latest 64 bit reaper, vista home premium, Remote Zero SL (updated with latest [3.3] automap). I've selected the 'use automapHUI' setting in automap server, and made the indicated settings in Reaper 'control surface' options. I've tried all possible combinations of automap/remote ports in the reaper MIDI devices section... i get a message of unable to start automapHUI ... any ideas? Thanks much -Jim

more info: I have the .dll in my basic reaper plugins folder (program files/steinberg) but i don't see the option to select it in the control surfaces option, and i don't see that i can open the plugin anywhere (VSTi, VST, all)...

what a drag, i can tell this will be great for me if i can get it to work!

@sceyefeye: is the X-Station Automap-compatible? I've taken a quick look at the specs on Novation's website I don't think it is

@Death Row Tull:

- please read post #1 very carefully: copy "reaper_csurf_automap.dll" to "<Reaper path>\Plugins". Your "program files/steinberg" folder and VST have nothing to do with this plugin

- 'use automapHUI' doesn't need to be checked in

- for Reaper x64 don't use the official dll from post #1 but this one:

http://www.p-c-m.org/temp/reaper_csu..._x64_rev64.dll

If "Novation Automap" still doesn't show up in your list of control surfaces, I suggest you wait for other reports regarding this x64 version since it's very new and hasn't been tested yet.

@Guido: you're welcome! Take anything you need from the source code it's under LGPL. If you're not familiar with C++ development I'd suggest you first take a look at a "simple" CSurf implementation though (e.g. "Baby HUI" from the Cockos SDK)

Hi Pardre

Thanks again for this amazing project.

I would also be interested in adapting the code for my old Radikal Technoloys Sak 2 controller, And trying to find a way of implementing the track names from the Hui csurf into your automap csurf.

Its been about 10 years since I used c++ so I wondered if you could point me in the wright direction as to what program to use . I can remember using dos promt and a compliler at uni but would like something that makes it easy to cut and paste sections of code and spot syntax errors.

First thing first... here's Rev70 for you!

http://www.p-c-m.org/temp/reaper_csu...omap_rev70.dll

Massive (I mean it!) "RemoteSL (beta)" mapping update:

- Now using a combination of Automap preset/page.
- New global controls (grid, snap, metronome, UI, etc.)
- New track controls (phase, Env/IO/FX/Group windows open)
- New Track/Item edition page
- New Track/Envelope edition page

Note on Track/Envelope edition page: "ActFader" is buggy, I know. I think this is a Reaper bug, I'll open a bug report once we're sure.

Don't forget to use the presets!

Program to use: Microsoft Visual C++. There's a 2008 "express" edition for free. Not my favorite (I'm a Code::Blocks/GCC guy) but if you want to use the Reaper SDK there's no other way around.

See you in the dev forum, I'll be glad to help!

The Automap SDK is available for Mac, I also try to avoid functions from the Windows API to make it easy for cross-platform transitions, but... I have no Mac, so I can't try or compile anything.

Hopefully someone with dev skills could take over the code for Mac versions?

I'm testing out Rev71 now. WOW! I *just* figured out how to get to the other "Preset" screens using the scroll buttons on the right, after wondering where everything went! This is incredible.

Question: Is there a way to make the I/O, Env, and FX buttons close the windows as well as open them?

I'm still slowly making my way through all the new screens. Nice work, Padre!

Just found something that may be a bug. On the Track/Item Editor page, I turned the "Pch:oct" knob one click to the left, and now the control seems to be named "DelTake". Let me know if you need me to try to recreate this behavior!

This is a massive new step Padre! fantastic work!

was wondering if we could have one thing!

you have one space left on the sliders for preset one to the left of metronome level (slider 5). could this PLEASE be assigned to "solo in front" level (and maybe have button 5 as the switch for solo in front mode).

This would be soooo great!

thanks for all this!

I'm waiting for a proper Reaper action from Cockos for that.
About the "Pchct" bug can you reproduce?

i find that the relative version of the "act" fader works great but the rotary absolute and the fader version go completely haywire even in read and touch mode not just trim.

still, very cool!

I can confirm this is acting very strange in absolute mode , and relative 1 is working in reverse for me.

Great work Pardre absolutely Wicked....

You know me cant resist a few suggestions.
Would Like to be able to move cursor amount set by grid.
Would like cut copy and paste on item page also select different items like the midi editor
Would like an encoder for scrubbing threw waveform and one to change length of item.
.......This would make it easy to rearrange breaks and perform hard disk edits without touching the mouse.
I think page 1 and 2 should have h/zoom v/zoom H/scroll v/scroll etc in the same position.
I think the Main page << should go to start of loop instead of song.
Name is working strange you now have to press a button for it to be displayed ????

BUT OOHH MY GOSH What an amazing achievement absolutely rocking

Hi Padre,
I've been very impressed by yr csurf.dll and I'm happy to use it.

I have had my Nocturn for over a year and I have tried to map my own mixer page using midiyoke, but as I understand Reaper is not sending the fader and pan positions back to midiyoke/Nocturn, meaning that I get everything to Reaper but nothing (that is = volume/pan) back from Reaper. I dont know how to program in C so that's no option for me.

So my idea was to buy a Faderport and use it together with Nocturn/csurf for a faster way to do my mixwork. In my opinion the Faderport has one big advantage, it has just one fader/pan, meaning you can look at the mixer on screen the whole time and shift between the channels with up/down buttons and dont bother to change/check pages, i.e. when you move from channel 2 to channel 11 like in csurf.

But then I thought, it must possible to make the Nocturn behave like a Faderport, only one page for setting volume/pan for all tracks.

Knob 1 for volume and knob 2 for pan, button 1 for solo and button 2 for mute, buttons 3/4 for track up/down. Buttons 5-8 for transport (goto start, goto loopstart, pause, play/stop).

Maybe another page dedicated for recording/editing, for markers, regions etc.

Suggestions?

Can't reproduce this with Reaper v3.13/Automap 3.3 in Trim/Read mode, I'll check other automation modes later.

I may add those if a 2nd "item edit" page is necessary and if room is available. Not that I think cut/copy/paste is useless: it's just that Ctrl-X/C/Y are well known shortcuts among Windows users.

It's been like that since a few revs. Automatic display was just too messy: sometimes it would compete with controls display and the LCD screen would end up in an ASCII jungle. Pressing "name" is safer I think, although sometimes you have to press it twice. I hope Novation will add a fullscreen display feature to the Automap SDK so I can get rid of the Sysex stuff.

@leonard: can be done. Right now the Nocturn/iPhone mappings are very basic because I have no access to these devices to debug: each time I implement a new mapping I have to compile the dll, upload, wait for feedback from users and adjust a new dll accordingly. Very slow procedure!

I've made remapping as easy as possible in my source code but minimal c++ skills are still required.

Well... I'll see what I can do for this extra Nocturn page...

Here it is, rev74:

http://www.p-c-m.org/temp/reaper_csu...omap_rev74.dll

- New solo-in-front vol control
- New 'track selection' Nocturn global page (waiting for feedback on this)
- New grid units-based cursor encoder
- Minor changes
- Internal stuff: 'Novation Automap: ...' actions are now registered on CSurf addition, not on plugin load (makes it a good candidate for Cockos integration).

@jedstar2000: I've been able to reproduce relative 'ActFader' bug in Trim/Read mode. I think it comes from Reaper: if you take a look at the fader, it's moving to the right direction, it's just the envelope that doesn't.

Everything works! Development faster than the speed of light, impressed

What have I done the last year?

Here's the result from the swedish jury...

LAYOUT: I had prefered to have knob 7 = SoloFnt , knob 3 = VScroll and knob 6 = VZoom, Then the scrollknobs and the zoomknobs will sit together on each side of the vertical fader. And I think it's clever to have the track up/down knob as 8, because its easy to find and grip with the right hand.

FUNCTION: A lot more than I had thought about. Buttons 6, 7, 8 are missing toggle, meaning that a second press will not take the windows away.

I've got my FaderPort rev0

Default Woops

Hi again Padre,
I've tested more tonight and here's the Nocturn layout (left to right) that works best for me, as far as I can see now.

Sorry for messing around, but better to admit bad thinking than live with it.

KNOBS:
1=Vol, 2=Pan, 3=VScroll, 4=VZoom, 5=HZoom, 6=HScroll, 7=SoloFnt, 8=Track

BUTTONS:
1=Solo, 2=Mute, 3=Prev track, 4=Next track, 5=Fn01, 6=Fn02, 7=Fn03, 8=Fn04

Am still on rev.64 (x64 version), and just tried for the first time the beta mapping, on a Remote Zero SL. This is wonderful for MIDI editing.

Can't wait to have the final version including all functions (MIDI editing & VST tweaking)
