midiChords - The "Ultimate" MIDI chord VST plugin. Maps any note into 0 or more other notes.
EDIT: Forgot to say that it also does strumming now!
Also useful to simply remap notes with.

I am new to REAPER. One of the selling points to REAPER is 64-bit audio. However, I am having trouble finding free VST effect plug-ins that support 64-bit audio I/O. I realize that this isn't important for display effects since I can force the pass-through signal to be unchanged (0% wet). Here are the free VST effect plug-ins I found so far that support 64-bit audio I/O:
Bitter http://www.stillwellaudio.com/?page_id=33
all http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/
all http://www.voxengo.com/group/free-vst-plugins/
Anybody found others?

I looked at Blue Cat's web page, and it does offer a version for 64-bit OS. But I could not find anything on Blue Cat's web pages about 64-bit audio. Since 64-bit audio implies more CPU loading, Blue Cat may choose to limit audio to 32-bit, even on a 64-bit OS.
Has anyone used the Bitter plugin I listed above to see if Blue Cat's audio output is 64-bit?

TX16Wx: Free Professional VSTi Sampler
A new solid and fully featured sampler (that actually samples) and soundfont (SF2) player:
Could this dethrone Shortcircuit finally?

Cool if Tx16Wx can do sound fonts. Have you tried it Vger?
Phenome would have become my go-to sf2 player but its a crash fest.
SFZ+ is what I use now, but the obvious drawback seems to be the lack of multi outs for further routing capability.

Yes, it's really very solid and fully featured and the developer knows what he's doing. He already made a free sampler to emulate his old hardware before, but realized the modern way is better so rewrote it completely.
Point is it's proper and I think many will want to change their main SF2 or even sampler for this one. Remains to be seen if it can be a competitor for Kontakt, but at least this can actually sample and not just play back samples like Kontakt.
There's also a pro commercial version using the Reaper pay system:
Full, commercial, unrestricted license - 80
Non-commercial, discounted license - 20

IMO, Maestro Concert Grand remains a better sounding piano.

Furman power conditioner VST
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=1241
"The FURMAN VST plugin faithfully reproduces the industry standard in power conditioning.
Allowing your tracks to truly come alive in every sense of the word, this plugin is an absolute necessity once it is placed in your effects chain. The A/B difference is undeniably astounding! For the home recordist who demands the ultimate in realism."
I saw this in another thread and it's actually real.

Wow, that's an awesome bundle! These plugins have a great reputation and I already use and love the freebies from the old days, but think I found some new mainstay plugins (all of them probably..)
Thanks for the headsup

I have used the 'JB' plugs in the past, but I definitely prefer the newer Tonebooster plugs.
Don't be afraid to send Jeroen a little cash for the new ones.

I downloaded that Furman plugin and laughed my ass off. If a client ever makes a subtle and vague request like they always do, I am going to throw on the Power Conditioner plugin and ask, is that better???
Bet you 100$$$ the majority of them say yes

Share and get midi content
Just found this one: http://comelody.com/melodo
The site explains as it comes:
"Melodo is a platform for instantly browsing short musical phrases contributed by composers from around the world.
Each musical phrase can be used to create new and exciting music by applying the musical creativity of other composers.
Melodo is available as a VST / Audio Unit plug-in."

I agree, The way the Furman.dll plugin handles dynamics is absolutely killer!!
I can't believe a plugin with that sort of sonic clarity can be free.

Yes had a proper go at it, but the more I use it, the more I realize how well Shortcircuit2 nailed it and probably can't be beat so I have basically given up TX16Wx and gone back to Shortcircuit2. TX16Wx has no searchable browser, and is overall just more tricky forcing you to deal with a confusing 'groups' system (which has no real releveance for drums for example), and a weird system of menus and controls. Finding and auditioning individual samples if there are doubles is very cumbersome. Whereas Shortcircuit2 is just how you expect it to work, TX needs to be learned and read, and still don't measure up.
The developer admits that the hardware Yamaha TX16W he grew up with is the inspiration, and although he completely changed the layout from an earlier version which was unashamedly hardware copy (and a nightmare to use to be honest), it still suffers from not being 'born' in software with its UI, menus, operation etc.
It will also crash occasionally, although to be fair it's still beta.

Speaking of the sampler Shortcircuit2, I don't think it has been mentioned in this thread but it really should as it's awesome:

Possibly this question belongs in another thread, but: what advantage does using a dedicated sampler VST bring to workflow? It seems to me that editing, duplicating, pitching and synching samples can all be done in the DAW without using a sampler. I'm sure I'm missing something.

once you have samples organised in a VSTi you can have rules applied that are controlled through your instrument or control surface, so you can then re-arrange those samples in real time... if I understood the question...

How would you play a sampled instrument without it?

I guess he speaks about drums programming.
Both methods have benefits and drawbacks. Depends only on your habbits I guess.
With Midi you can change/switch samples easily, but you have less flexibility for editing specific events. I prefer MIDI because I tend to change/replace samples quite a lot.
Reaper allows to replace sources, but this is not meant to be used to pre-listen 100 samples in a row.

If I want to cut a sample, it's easy enough to edit the WAV from the original source as an item in Reaper. So there's my sample.
I can then copy it as a loop, or duplicate it, and apply pitchshift or whatever to the relevant items on the timeline - without having to go in and out of a separate VST and sample-loading process.
I understand that if I used a sampler, I could do it 'on the fly' more; but it seems like when I'm creating a production, I'm going to end up looking at every part of it pretty closely anyway. Maybe this is because I don't use sample libraries for creating drum patterns etc, and instead mostly use longer samples and manipulate them over time? Or else I'm just an idiot?
Anyway, I want to get to grips with using a sampler in Reaper because I suspect I'll want to use one live at some point and duplication-on-the-fly won't cut it. Apologies for derailing the thread.
