Default Click (not drag) on faders makes -0.05dB cut (sometimes) (FIXED)

1) Double-click an item to open Media Item Properties
2) Click (not drag) on the volume fader
3) Sometimes, but not always, the fader moves down 0.05dB.

Why?

Also, on track volume faders (I always use the MCP for this):

1) Start with volume at 0.00dB
2) Ctrl+mousewheel (or whatever your preference) down one step at a time. It goes:

-0.06
-0.10
-0.15
-0.19
-0.24

and so on. Roughly but not exactly 0.05dB each step.

3) Now select multiple tracks, not with the same existing volume. Adjusting one of these tracks adjusts them by all exactly the same amount, which, because each step is not always exactly 0.05dB, means that one or more tracks may not land exactly on one of the values in the scale.

4) Click, not drag, on one of these volume faders and it always moves down to the next value in the scale.

Why? Does Reaper not like a track being at -0.23, or -0.14?

Hope all this all makes sense

I think it depends on preference settings-I use 'max precision at +0 dB (4.0)' and the increments work fine-- it's only when you start going lower then -1db you start to lose precision there with ctrl mod.
I noticed clicking on faders does have effect you describe some time ago-just dealt with it.
Anything 2 decimal points after 0. is not worth worrying about {imo} but the computer still wants to read them infos.
Db is more of a rounded measurement.
User can always click&set values to be certain. =)

Good question as I cannot repro it here. I've clicked maybe 100 times so far.

Yeah, doesn't happen to me either.

Maybe it's your mouse?

Nice try but it happens with the laptop touchpad as well.

I should have been more precise with regard to the Media Item Properties thing. When I say it "sometimes" happens, I should have said it depends on what volume the media item is set to already.

With some values it always happens, and with other values it never happens.

e.g. if an item is already at -0.61dB, a click on the fader always moves it down to -0.66. But an item at -0.43dB is always "safe".

Still no repro. I can never get it set to precisely -0.61 for one thing and... + 0.61 (or any other value for that matter) doesn't repro. What's the need (beyond basic accuracy) being that .05 dB is impossible to hear (most people can't even distinguish 0.2 dB much less 1/4 of that). I'm not arguing it, but I'm curious of where this matters audibly.

Either way, I have yet to find any value that repros.

I can get it to -0.61 after a few attempts, but no matter how many times I click the fader it stays at the present value.

This is with an Apple Magic Mouse.

I'm not saying any of this matters, which is why it's in the nitpick forum

Great and fair point. I still can't repro though.

GUI values are rounded up, so the adjustments may be the same amount but you are seeing an approximation. I never really checked, but I assume this to be the case.(for the gain increments).

edit: a quick check shows increment to be about 0.04625 dB +/-
