Default insert empty midi item from inside the midi editor

I'm trying to work more directly inside the pianoroll. I have the complete track list visible, and actions setup for this workflow. (A lot of tracks for orchestral writing.)

What i can't do at the moment is add an empty midi item in the PR for a selected track, at the cursor. (Although we have an action for this in Main)

Does anyone know if this possible with an existing action, or action macro, and if so, how?

Alex.

I think this should be possible if you add a key to the bypass list in the MIDI Editor bindings. That key will then perform the action it is bound to in the main window.

what he is talking about the passthrough action... it might work in this case... it does work in the MIDI Ed. for most things

so you basically pick an action or create a custom action in the main and give it a key binding and then it the MIDI Ed. action you set up a Pass Through to that key binding. Give it a try.

Maybe I have what you want in this custom action.

so you create that in the Actions for Main... you can use my name for it or your own name... whatever

you bind it to a hot key combination... I have used
Cntrl+Win+Alt+O

but you can use whatever suits you that is not already used by something else.

then change the Actions list from Main to Midi Editor and in the filter type
pass through or passthrough [probably the first]

click on the pass through action and in the field where you can add key bindings [hot keys] enter the key binding you have assigned to the custom action above [ mine is Cntrl+Win+Alt+O ]

remember to export your actions so you don't lose them...

To use this you have your item open the MIDI Editor, make a time selection anywhere within it and hit that hot key combination...
It will insert an empty chunk of MIDI item that is equal to the Time Selection you have made.

Most likely you will Snap to grid set to ON so your time selection will be some even multiple of your current grid... but if you want the time selection and therefore the size of the empty space to NOT be perfectly on the grid, then first set Snap to grid to OFF.

Thank you to you both. The passthru command from the Midi Editor did the trick.
