Default Overlapping regions should be accessible

There are situations in which having overlapping regions is essential.

However reaper currently hides any 'underneath' regions with no way to even bring it to the front to see it's name.

Ideally, there would be region lanes at the top showing all, where they jump to new lane if overlapping.

However even a quick fix like z-order plus opacity may be enough for now, so you can at least see them underneath and bring a hidden one to the front to see it's label if you need. i.e. click more than once to get underneath top most region.

I could really use this. It's not uncommon to want to use a region for the full project length, plus regions for smaller sections within it.
I would want the region lane in the ruler to expand as needed for overlaps.

+1, the region/marker area could use some love.

If space is an issue, there's also the option of just bumping one region down by a few pixels so that the second region is clearly visible.

That would only work if you could also bring it to the front somehow to view the label, so there would need to be a z-order for markers/regions.

Example where the small red region's label (underneath the green region) is inaccessible.

A more complex example. There is no way can read most of the names (which contain useful info in this case).

Overlapping regions lanes would be more readable, indeed !

Ideally I want each region color to be on separate track. I know that each color will not overlap with region of same color in my situation. But different colors will.

The action would be "Options: Show overlapping media items in lanes"
those are items, this request is about the region lane in the ruler.

Let me use letters for ids.

Or is there a technical reason why this isn't possible?

You can have different sets of regions on different tracks, and then only show whatever "layer" of overlap you want. Pretty spiffy.

+1 for som region love - the Usability would be greatly improved if we could see the overlap.

The item/region script is very clever. Actually, thanks for reminding me of it. I can use that for spotting different groups of effects.

The region overlap, when it happens does fuck things up.
As cool as they are, that part of the region system sucks right now.

The simplest idea was to have a second lane pop up, and a third if necessary and so on.

Anyone have a better idea to fix the "it does not work"-state of overlapping regions ?

Such a feature would really help.

Another quick fix would be an option to edit a masked region from the Region Manager via right click --> edit region

+1 from me. I work in game audio and this always comes up for me in my workflows. Nuendo deals with this beautifully. I would love to see a similar solution in Reaper.

+1

I'm just fighting with a whole song region which has covered intro region, but not others. Have no idea how to manage it except of removing it.

Overlapping regions as lanes did get added to reaper a while ago.

It's just not obvious because you need to drag in a strange place to make enough room for the lanes or they don't appear.

You have to resize your ruler manually. It doesn't expand dynamically to fit.

Thank you.
After some digging I figured out how to achieve it.

But now I noticed I cannot do the same in midi editor. How can I display regions in multiple lanes in this window?

thanks in advance

I just tried and can't see a way to do it there. Put in a feature request. Ask for same as in a arrange view.

I requested overlapping regions in arrange view and was pleased to see it happened pretty quickly, maybe a month or so later. You may be lucky.
