Default explode multi-channel items

been experiencing some weirdness (as in not working at all) with this action/menu option using v5.21/64 on w10pro and wondering if it's carried forward into the current releases or if it's just me. haven't gotten a response on the general forum. can someone here test this?

when i perform this action on a 6 channel surround wav (48k/24) i get varied behaviors. sometimes it renders out empty wavs. sometimes it seems to start correctly but only render a small part of the wav, then fills with empty item.

in either case it puts the renders in a strange place. i'm using a portable install but it puts the renders into F;\BabaG\Documents\REAPER Media. on this system F: is 'system reserved.' i'd have expected it to use c: if anything other than the portable folder (which is what i'd REALLY expect).

my intuition is telling me there are multiple things going on, some reaper, some windows. i'd guess the path is a windows thing, though, it should be handled by reaper as a portable install. no idea about the empty items thing or why it behaves differently under different circumstances.

can someone with multi-channel experience test this, please?

thanks,
BabaG

Have you got a file to test?

Actually I'm surprised this action renders new files. I would have thought it would just set the channel mode but maybe separate files are better for performance or something.

unfortunately, i don't have anything practical to send, too big. a smaller file might not be appropriate anyway as, in one case, reaper rendered the new files properly for a while before getting weird. the files i've tested with vary between 15 and 42 minutes.

thanks,

Okay, no matter. I can render one with REAPER but it could be a problem with your source files. I'll give it a try tonight.

I'll try and get round to testing this too.

I normally don't use this as I prefer to do it manually and not create new files by copying the item multiple times and changing the item channel for each one.

I think one of the "master scripters" has created something that does this via a script but I need to find it again.

Would love a reaper action for this though.

anybody ever get a chance to check this? i wound up using wave agent to split the files but it seems like, since reaper has a built-in solution, it ought to be made usable.

thanks,

Sorry, I'm having some storage trouble right now. Those are big files!

I'll have to break out the external drive tomorrow!
