Default Hard drive question - IDE or SATA

Hi,

I have a Dell laptop that I use for, well everything - including music.

I'm thinking of getting a caddy and a 3.5inch internal drive to go it so that I can clear everything out of my laptop drive to free up space for recording.

I'm just wondering if there is any point in worrying about the differences between IDE and SATA if im only using it for storage and im running it via USB2?

Technically I'd say no. But IDE drives are getting rare and are considerably more expensive these days.

FWIW.. I bought a new desktop about 14 months ago. It doesn't even have IDE connectors, only SATA. Might want to keep that in mind.

Yeah, IDE is well on it's way out. I just bought an IDE notebook drive, 80gb for $65, to replace a broken one. If I was looking for SATA, I could have got 250GB for the same price.
