Reaper as a "drummachine"
Hi - I have been having this idea of creating a rather complex template in Reaper for a live analog-ish drummachine setup. I havn't found a good controller yet, but Arturia Beatstep looks cool!
So the idea is to use a combination of synths and samples to generate the drum sound. Then try to map certain sweet parameters to knobs. Then have this out on several tracks for individual EQing, reverb, etc.
And to not overrun my Mac, probably try to use as few plugins as possible (ie, hopefully not have to load a plugin for each pad/midi note split).
A few questions...
...anyone have experience in creating a live drum synth setup in this way Reaper? possibly including both samples and synth generated sound...
...is it possible to map recorded midi cc to "note on" only where all the tweaking of knobs data is discarded but the settings recalled on note start? (Akai MPC had something like this). I find editing of midi-cc somewhat confusing, especially if a lot of different channels has been used in conjunction... also there is this feeling that things end up slightly different in playback than what it seemed like during recording
