Default ASIO change in 5.50? (SOLVED)

Hello

There seems to be some change in how reaper interacts with ASIO drivers recently in 5.50pre.

I use Tascam Ministudio US-42 and the ASIO driver "MiNiSTUDIO US-32/42 Mixing Driver" works perfectly in 5.40 but not at all in 5.50pre. In 5.50pre, when the ASIO driver is set as US-32/42 Mixing Driver, the play cursor does not move after hitting the play button. The recording signal doesn't get in as well.

I think it's related to how reaper 5.50 changed in handling ASIO.

So you can roll back to (or just start if you have a parallel install) 5.40 and then it works? What's your operating system? Far shot but do you have an AVAST AV product installed?

Yes, I have two reaper versions(5.40 and 5.50pre11) installed on my system. 5.40 is installed as default and 5.50pre11 is installed as portable. It works just fine with 5.40, but the ASIO driver doesn't work with 5.50pre11.

My OS is Windows 10 64bit. I don't use AVAST AV.

AVG, then, perhaps? Both AV programs are known to have issues with ASIO drivers of certain audio interfaces.

Maybe to do with this change ?

Quote:
v5.50pre9 - May 19 2017
+ Windows: support receiving ASIO overload notifications
So to check you could install pre8 and see if this fixes.

Hmm, odd... i haven't found a single asio driver that supports sending the overload notifications, so perhaps we'll just revert those changes...

FWIW, I'll implement it in wineasio some day (if you don't revert it)

On the other hand maybe better to ascertain that this is the OP's problem, even though it sounds likely.

Is there a list of which asio device drivers some where?

Thank you for your suggestion. I tested all the version from

550pre8

to

550pre11

installing them as portable installation.

And strangely the ASIO driver worked with all the versions. I approached it in a more investigative way and found that it was not the matter of reaper versions. The icon that I run reaper has the attribute of "run as administrator" on. It was because some audio drivers required reaper run as the admin privilege(for example, Synchronous Audio Router http://sar.audio/ ). However, my Ministudio US-42 Mixing driver doesn't work with reaper when reaper was run as administrator.

Sorry for the false signal.

Do you have any idea why the specific driver doesn't work with admin privileged reaper? My other ASIO drivers (Ministudio US-32/42 ASIO, Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO, Behringer UMC ASIO) all works okay.
