Default New Massive Drumkit ! (no 3rd party software required)

UPDATE : 23-May-2014 (corrected template in light of comments)

This is my biggest Reasamplomatic tracks template yet. NO 3rd party software required at all.

Listen to a short sample groove first :
https://stash.reaper.fm/20757/Massive%20Drums.mp3

You need the kit from here :
http://www.drumgizmo.org/wiki/doku.php?id=kits

The kit used is the one called MuldjordKit Version 2.

Download it , unzip it to your drive and do NOT modify.

Reaper track template is here :
https://stash.reaper.fm/20769/Muldjor...RTrackTemplate

Either place the above in the Reaper Track Templates folder or double click on the above to open it in Reaper.

It will ask you about a missing sample. Use the "search" and browse to the above unzipped kit folder. Do not use the "Locate File" option.

Once its done searching and populating press play.

Voila !

Note : Im too tired to give details, but these are essentially nice dry samples, with per sub-folder fx applied which you can tweak. You can adjust the sends to the reverb bus too.

The MIDI track has the now-infamous Tod's MIDI groove you hear in the sample mp3 above.
Tweak you brains out.

Later maybe...
Trust me these are raw samples and pretty tweakable to shape the sound as you like.

The kick, snare and toms subgroups have a gate, eq and compressor chain each. The hast and cymbals just have eq.

You can mix in the right amount of oh, room mics in each item.

Try it !

I was right there with you until I watched the video of the guy playing the kit... that's one incredibly distorted video!

hahaaa bad video tech but trust me the the samples are good and quite usable. The drumgizmo guys worked hard to share three pretty kick-ass detailed sampled kits for free.
Ignore the vid...try the sample short mp3 file to see how it sounds.

I wish it was that easy, but unfortunately not...

Reaper looks for this file:
C:\Music Studio\Samples\Samples\DRUMS\MuldjordKit_20pct_ble ed\MuldjordKit_20pctBleed\KdrumL\samples\1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav

In the download I got there is nowhere any file named "1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav". There is one called "1-KdrumL.wav", though, but I have to manually replace the "1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav" with "1-KdrumL.wav". And then "2-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav" with "2-KdrumL.wav", and then ... "25-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav" with "25-KdrumL.wav", and then the same for KdrumR...

The root folder that I got is called "MuldjordKit2", not "MuldjordKit_20pctBleed". Did I pick the wrong download?

Your path is probably too long.

I'm not sure I get that... It is not my path, it is the path set in the Reasamplomatic template suleiman provided. My path would be "D:\Sounds\MuldjordKit2\KdrumR\samples\1-KdrumR.wav".

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, so let me ask: Has anyone gotten things to work as smoothly as described in the OP? That is, just click "Search", point to the DL'ed root folder, and Reaper then just resolves all paths to all samples?

You listed your path as:

C:\Music Studio\Samples\Samples\DRUMS\MuldjordKit_20pct_ble ed\MuldjordKit_20pctBleed\KdrumL\samples\1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav

Try unpacking the file somewhere else like c:\drums and see if you can uncompress the whole thing.

I am just about to download the file myself, so I'm not sure why you have MuldjordKit_20pctBleed listed twice in yours.

No. I listed my path as D:\Sounds\MuldjordKit2\KdrumR\samples\1-KdrumR.wav

As I said earlier, that is the path and file names entered by suleiman in the Reasamplomatic template. It is those files that Reaper cannot find, and it should be easy just to point Reaper to my path D:\Sounds\MuldjordKit2, but this does not work since the template has wrong paths and filenames.

Please, let me know how you succeed. Thanks.

Hmmm......

I and others had similar file-finding issues with the Yamaha Drum drop kit from suleiman.

Having looked at the paths given here, with the double folders, I'm starting to suspect that the cause lies with suleiman's OS, or something he's doing and not realizing.

With the Yamaha kit, we were looking for issues in the TX16Tw sampler. Some had no problems and those that had file-finding issues got sorted when suleiman leapt into action to fix things.

I had a thought - could it be that those with the same OS as suleiman don't get double-folder issues, and those that have a different OS have problems?

These problems must be fixable if we can track down the cause.

Because there's no third-party software involved with this kit, we are dealing with just REAPER and suleiman's OS. Here's hoping the source of these issues can be pinpointed and sorted out. It must be extremely frustrating for suleiman to put these kits together and then find that people can't use them because of dumb file issues.

I suggest people come in and report 'yay' or 'nay' regarding issues along with details of their OS................or somesuch kinda thing to get these recurring issues sorted out and improve suleiman's quality of life .

this never happens for me with rs5k. i wish it did. as it stands it does not ask about a missing sample, it just says "not loaded."

i can confirm that the files have an extra "-KdrumR" in their filename.

looking at the files of the "old" zip package, it looks like that is the one that suliman has used...

@ nym : that is a built in Reaper dialogue. It is alwas supposed to ask for missing samples. The two options it offers are "search" and "locate file". If you use search n point it at the correct folder, it should populate all the samples correctly.

The samples download is version 2 from this page :

http://www.drumgizmo.org/wiki/doku.p...ts:muldjordkit

Version 2 is the 1.5 GB download. It will note work with the older 800 MB version 1 download.

I tested by moving renaming the samples folder and it asked th search option above and then loaded the samples correctly without a problem.

But i will see if there is a folder path type problem as roboplankton said.

Ok. Original template has been replaced with a shorter file path.

Check it out and do let me know if it works.

Remember you need the version 2 of the sample set (1.5 gb),

And you should use the search option (which allows you to browse to a folder), instead of the "locate file" option.

I absolutely appreciate all the time and effort that must go into a tedious project like this, as well as all the kits that Suleiman puts together. I also appreciate the fact that he offers them here for free. I just wish they worked. I have not once been able to point to a sample and have Reaper just find it and load all the rest. Not in any single kit that has been offered here.

I can't help but think it has to do with the folder/file paths.

C:\Music Studio\Samples\Samples\DRUMS\MuldjordKit_20pct_ble ed\MuldjordKit_20pctBleed\KdrumL\samples\1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav

does not exist on my computer, therefore, Reaper can't find the files there.

As far as the kick files, for example, being named 1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav, well I don't know what's up with that. The download I got directly from the link posted here, and it's the version 2 Muldjord Kit2. Exactly what we're told we need. Yet the files are not named like Suleiman's files are named.

In the KdrumL folder, the files are named 1-KdrumL.wav 2-KdrumL.wav, etc, all the way to 25. None of them have the name in there twice, so this is a big mystery to me. Seems like we don't have the same stuff.

Anyway, I repeat.....I appreciate all the time and effort spent on something like this, but for me....never ever ever works as simply as it should.

But, like always, I'll keep reading and waiting and see if someone finds a solution. Thanks, suleiman! You have more patience than I do, that's for sure!

Not for me. It's still looking for the double-named files. Which I simply don't have.

Just for fun, I tried to play these files in Resonic Alpha as well as Windows Media Player, and got the same error message in both: Unsupported format or corrupt file. Can't even listen to them. Maybe I'll re-download and try again.

Downloading the kit now...........

Suleiman, in which version of REAPER did you create the template? I'm looking at obvious stuff first.

Is it possible to attach your version of ReaSamplomatic here so we can try that?

Was it raining or fine when you created the template ?

I have used ANT RENAMER (free soft), available at:
http://www.antp.be/software/renamer

Add all the files (select Muldjordkit2 folder)
go to ACTIONS
then on the left menu, REGULAR EXPRESSIONS

expression: (.*)-(.*).wav
new name: $1-$2-$2.wav

and start renaming

It's still missing some "trigger" file, I don't have them in my download, but it seems to work.

I have double checked and just to show you guys :

Each velocity layer for the kicks has 16 separate samples for each mic (!!!).

so yes there is a 1-KdrumL-KdrumL.wav which means its the first velocity layer for the left kicks main mic. and so on...

I have only used 3 of the most usable ones out of all the 16 mics....

so again, im baffled that your 1.5 GB version 2 kit downloads do not include these samples...

...

Same here.

We need to figure this.

Suleiman, maybe re-download and see what you get.

PS:

All the files in all the folders are named in this manner.....from 1 thru to 25 etc.

I just checked the site again. It looks like something is odd.

When you download the kit , its called "MuldjordKit" and not "MuldjordKit_20pctBleed" right ?

Seems like they changed the samples set or something . I downloaded mine around 1 year or more ago.

Sigh..........i will remap and share (because its cool drumkit and a gret template), but it will take a little time....

such is life......

i should take up another hobby, like stamp collecting or maybe slitting my wrists with a rusted razor..

my file is called "MuldjordKit2"
contains 17 folders + 2 xml + 1 txt files

each folder contains an xml file and a folder "samples"
in each "sample", there are x files named "1-foldername.wav" to "x-foldername.wav"

so, yes, probably, they changed

The zip is named MuldjordKit2.zip.

A bit of a bummer for you, but at least we know what's a-goin' on now.

I'm looking forward to this so I can at last get into ReaSamplomatic.

On the bright side, you'll probably never work with an old download again . The learning curve sure has a lot of curves!

Cheers!

Default FINALLY !!!

At considerable risk to my sanity and marital happiness, i re-downloaded the new updated kit, and walla / lo and behold ! they combined all the mic channles into single (multi0channle) sample files (hence the no play for edkip in music players).

However Reaper and Reasamplomatic reads them just fine

So heres the new and improved Reaper Track template / mapping for the kit that you all actually downloaded.

https://stash.reaper.fm/20769/Muldjor...RTrackTemplate

updated in the original post too.

Enjoy and please let me know if it works.

See, now I was gonna ask you about the 20% bleed thing. I had no clue where that was coming from. But I decided I was already sounding like an ungrateful pain in the ass, so I just let it go. Now it all makes sense.

Sorry for any grief I may have caused you, and it's good to know that we're all not crazy. Please keep your hobbies as they are! Thanks

Check the new version just posted now.

It works with the kit you all actually downloaded. Kindly let me know how it goes.

Just download the new track template and open in Reaper. Downloading and checking should take you less than 5 mins. Thanks

Loading well here now.....

.....but I'm on my web PC with only 500MB RAM, so I got a memory warning. I'll transfer the samples and new template over to my music computer and report back.

Make sure the "On successful search...." box is checked when pointing to your samples folder.

@ nym : that is a built in Reaper dialogue. It is alwas supposed to ask for missing samples. The two options it offers are "search" and "locate file". If you use search n point it at the correct folder, it should populate all the samples correctly.
i do not get this prompt.

That is really odd. In Reaper that is default behaviour for a while now. Dont remember which version it started with.

Only possibilities are that you turned of the option ( somewhere in the pref. maybe) or Reaper version is older than when the option was incorporated.
