Default Guess What Plugins and Win a Free Prog CD!

For fans of progressive rock, my band has just posted clips from our upcoming CD, almost all of which was composed and tracked in Reaper:

http://www.shadowcircusmusic.com/

Here's the fun part...the first three people who can accurately name two plugins used on the audio clips will get a free copy of the CD when they ship! (Which will be around November 1st)....

Worth a shot:
1) ReaComp
2) ReaEQ

Actually, none of the built-in Reaper plugs were used...Very tough to "hear" a particular EQ or comp from a sound clip, probably much easier to guess a virtual instrument or amp sim...

See my post above - no Reaper plugs were used...

Go by what you hear in the clips, not by the fact that it was done in Reaper...

Here's my guess:

NO PLUGINS WERE USED AT ALL.

I can't hear the song from work, so that's my best guess.

Some are correct!

But I can't say until there are three of you with two correct guesses...

To be fair, limit guesses to ten plugins, but I won't disqualify anything already posted...

Thanks for all the kind words about the music, btw! I want to put a disclaimer on the album "Made Possible by Reaper's Superior Handling of Tempo and Meter Changes"!

A few more people to guess for a free CD? I think we might have two winners already, so if someone else guesses two plugs, I'll reveal the winners!

Ok, looks like we've got the winners!

Carbon - B4 and Kontakt are correct!

CameronDye - Kontakt and B4

Kindafishy - B4 and C4 are correct!

I went with the three that mentioned two of them correctly first...did I get it right? Please send me your shipping addresses by PM so I can send you CD's when they are ready (they will ship around November 1st)!

For whoever was interested, this is what was used:

PodFarm - all of the guitar sounds
Ivory - Piano
Sampletank - Mellotrons

The Moog is actually a real Little Phatty...No drum samples are used (my drummer would be very sad to hear he was mistaken for BFD, let alone EZDrummer, so I won't forward a link to this thread to him, he'll jump off a building)...

Got my copy of this disc about three days ago and I have had a chance to have more than a few listens front to back.

This is a very well done album from every standpoint. Well recorded, very well written and very well performed. It's a really interesting listen front to back too because it isn't "all prog all the time - in your face". There is a nice mix of some wonderfully composed prog numbers and there are other songs that have a more flowing "conventional" style - all of which are beautifully performed.

Standouts for me are 'The Seduction of Harold Lauder', 'The Horsemen Ride', 'Willoughby' and 'Angel'. That being said, every track is enjoyable to listen to. My personal favourite is 'The Horsemen Ride'. I love this tune.

Thank you so much for my copy of this album. I'll be giving this many, many more spins.

I would recommend that anyone who likes prog, rock or just compelling songwriting in general go to the band's website, check it out and maybe pick up a copy of this CD.

Great job. Congratulations. You guys must be very proud.

PS - I was hoping that 'Bolero' was going to be on the CD. I'll have to wait for the next one, I guess.

Wow, thank you very, very much for your review! I'm really glad you enjoy it!

BTW, Bolero made it to the album, it was just renamed! It's the last song, now renamed to ...Then in July, the Thunder Came...

So it is... shit! The name threw me off. I remember really liking that tune so I looked for the name on the sleeve. The drums sound really different on the album version. They still have a tribal feel to them, but on the album version they sound 'King Kong' and on the mp3 version they sound 'Indiana Jones'. I'm sure that doesn't make sense... Maybe on the album version they sound 'Africa' and on the mp3 version they sound 'Egypt'. I'm sure that doesn't make sense either...

Anyway... wicked.

LOL! LOL! You have a good memory, actually!

The original version I posted here had my sampled timpani drums...since then they were replaced in the studio by our actual drummer. Try telling a drummer that you're going to let sampled percussion make it onto the CD! (Although, to his credit, he agreed to keep the sampled gong...we realized that by the time we rented a gong and a studio to record one in, it would probably end up sounding a lot like the sampled gong anyway!)...

The album sounds great!

My fav. was Angel:
well written, great dynamics changes, passionate vocals, I like the guitar sound & the trippy keys @ the end. Everything flows and ebbs and melds together. The chorus peaks it all. 4 thumbs up! (that includes my 2 big toes)

Captain Trips: could have been a track on 2112, your Rush/Yes/Floyd influences are apparent. (and some of my all-time favorites too!)

And your website is really nice.
The colors, layout, header text/glow etc. are well done.
Cool album cover too.

I've left it in my car and been listening a ton to my cd, btw thanks a ton for getting it out. I actually just finished listening to it front to back in 1 sitting, I think I've actually listened 5 or so times in pieces while driving. I love the cd and it sounds excellent. I think the highlight for me is all of Project Blue but The Horseman Ride is my favorite out of it.

When the Morning Comes is actually another one that sticks out for me. A lot of attention went in to getting the vocals right and build the song. The quiet ones are always tougher for me because I'm not sure where to stop the production and you guys got it right.

You guys really have something to be proud of...great job.

It's funny what different people hear because I hear more Old Genesis on this album than anything...probably because of the vocals though.

Wow, thanks so much guys, I'm totally blown away by the positive response to this CD, and especially coming from all of you, who are all people who know what's involved in producing music, it really means a lot! You've all made my day! :-)

Capt Hook, FINALLY somebody hears my 2112/Hemispheres homage in Captain Trips/Hand of God!!!

The Pink Floyd influence is probably the most in Angel, although the pattern of long atmospheric intros during Project Blue is definitely a nod to The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon as well...

I always thought of Long Road as my attempt at writing a Peter Gabriel-era Genesis tune...

So you guys caught all of the influences very well!

Yes! The first seven songs make up the suite called "Project Blue", which is based on The Stand...The rest of the songs are unrelated, but there's another reference you might be familiar with -- "Willoughby" is based on the Twilight Zone episode "Last Stop at Willoughby"...
