Default Low Fi Country cornpone

Old country tune I wrote but couldn't sing. Got a guy by the name of Mark Staab to do the lyrics and melody. Tried to go low fi on this one.

Mark: lead vocs, lyrics, melody
Me: bass, acoustic, harms
Steel&Fiddles: looped samples--chopped up and tuned to the chords. There's a bit of pitch and stretching, but hardly noticeable in Reaper (and low fi-ness).

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...AboveFINAL.mp3

STEREO version:
https://app.box.com/s/nq0pcqv96s2kbq7h8t0j0sbutked2s2r

I have no shame.

I really liked that!

ONly thing (I thought stood out) in a not ideal way was some of the drum fills.

those words and tune work pretty good, I think....

...although i was sure, for an instant or two, that the line was gonna be "I wont need yourPICKUP TRUCK"... the premise being, "I wont need your truck cause now I got these silver wings'....

whatever, bob wills and the texas playboys are spinning fast enough to llight Cleveland

Tune... arrangement... mix... what can I say, 'cept "Wish I was there when it all went down."
Edit: I forgot: "... vocal... groove and STEEL.".

Great as always, but damn unexpected! You really nailed that old pre vinyl sound.

I knew those drums were pretty hokey at the start and kept saying "i've gotta change this, i gotta changed this." then got lazy and left them.

hey Mark. it was just a bunch of random loops that I chopped to measures, re-arranged, then re-pitched to synch with my guitar chords. I let the chopped edges fade a bit more than usual to sound "seamless."

I used Izotope's free Vinyl plugin for that and some purposely bad 2bus eq'ing. only time you can get away with it.

I'm not convinced you needed to go lo fi...

your ears are probably better than mine, but I cant hear any reason, in the original hi fi version, to degrade the fiddle and steel...

...it's just that they sound so good in hi fi

.

just the novelty of it and I wanted to try something mono and see if I could still eq for separation.
Besides, I want BW all the way!

well, you went too far in my opinion...

I mean, I wouldn't justify degrading the music on the rounds that i was trying to imitate someone I despised from the moment I laid ears on him...

i figured if i could separate in mono, then that would improve my regular stereo mixes. first attempt, but I think I'm gonna try that a bit more.
appreciate the drop by.

Yes, very nice piece. I like the Bob Wills "jive " you went with. Was that you, or did you borrow Bob's "ahh haa"? Rhythm, drums and overall construction reminded me of some of Tom Waits stuff. Got pretty dense toward the end as you added the honkytonk piano, etc., but it all works well.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing it...

Sammy, would it be too much work to post a hi fi stereo vesion of this song?

it would be interesting to hear what bob wills might hve sounded like if he were modernized...

Default Mono

Sounds great... I randomly clicked on the first file and thought...wow... It's in mono... Just like the the old country records... And the scratching on the records... Then I noticed the stereo version too.

Great song - A Little Underground "Death Country" lol - I think I like it better than "Death Metal" A lot of those guys are just so 'serious'

And ... it was recorded with "Reaper" Pretty clever )

Sounds great... I hope I can get my records sounding that good. Just getting going with Reaper again... I bought it quite awhile ago but went out and started playing covers in bars... It' great to be back in my home studio...
